Wolverhampton Wanderers did not perform to the best of their abilities against Southampton, but, crucially, emerged from the clash with three points.

It was a game the lacked quality from both sides.

There were lots of misplaced passes and some poor decision-making.

But thankfully from a Wolves perspective, the team ran out winners, which is huge given how unlucky they have been at times this term.

It was Raul Jimenez who provided a moment of magic that proved to be the difference between the two sides.

He beat two Southampton defenders to get in on goal before calmly finishing past Alex McCarthy.

It was a fine all-round display from Jimenez, who appears to be heading slowly back to his pre-injury levels.

Jose Sa was also very good, having made several good saves. At one point he also showed his ability to sweep.

The pair were the definite standouts for Wolves, and Premier League Hall of Famer Alan Shearer has included them both in his latest Team of the Week.

Sa and Jimenez deserve recognition

Jimenez didn’t just score a brilliant goal – his whole performance was excellent.

He put himself about and gave Jan Bednarek in particular a torrid time.

He also linked play superbly.

And Sa was also very impressive between the sticks.

After causing a bit of panic in the first-half when he was almost charged down taking too long to clear the ball, he really was solid.

Hopefully, the pair can continue to step up for Wolves.
