Alan Shearer makes prediction about Matheus Cunha’s involvement for Wolves now he’s back from suspension

Matheus Cunha will be available for selection this weekend for Wolves, after serving his latest ban.

The Brazilian has missed the last four games, after getting a red card against Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

Cunha was dismissed after fighting with Milos Kerkez, but was then charged with improper conduct by the FA.

His three-game ban was increased to four, which left fans very worried at the time.

But Wolves have actually managed just fine without Cunha, taking 10 points from the last four games and winning the last three in a row.

Alan Shearer has suggested Wolves have looked better without Cunha, and plenty of fans have suggested the game.

Shearer has now made a prediction about Cunha with the forward available for selection again by Vitor Pereira.

Just seven games remain this season for Wolves.

Thankfully, it is now looking all but certain that Wanderers will be in the Premier League next season, after going 12 points clear of the drop zone.

The 10 points picked up in Cunha’s absence are somewhat surprising, and some fans have now suggested Cunha shouldn’t start Wolves’ next game against Tottenham Hotspur.

What Pereira does will be very interesting.

But regarding the remainder of the season, Alan Shearer has explained why he thinks Cunha might not be too heavily involved.

He said: “He’s got Cunha, who’s a very, very good player, but he knows that he’s a bit of a maverick and he’s been suspended for the last four games. They’ve won three and drawn one.

“My guess is that he signed a contract, perhaps, to get Wolves some money in the summer, which would have a close in there.

“So he’ll leave in the summer and someone will buy him. So I don’t suspect he’ll play a big part in what Wolves do in the future.”

Pereira should not rely on Cunha

With Wolves now all but safe, these last seven games are a chance for fringe players to see a bit more involvement.

Realistically, Cunha is not going to be at Molineux next season. Indeed, earlier today it was claimed Cunha’s agent is flying into England for talks about his client’s next move, with Manchester United keen.

Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause will surely get triggered, and Wolves will bid farewell to the Brazilian.

So it does not make sense to be starting Cunha in all seven of these remaining matches in the Premier League.

It’s about preparing for next season and getting used to playing without Cunha – so far, Wolves have done a pretty good job of that.
