Alan Shearer makes encouraging Wolves point, but Gary Lineker highlights something ominous

Another week, another loss to dissect for Wolves.

Points of encouragement have been few and far between at Wolves this season, as they struggle to get up to speed in the Premier League.

But rather than going straight to doom and gloom, it can be helpful to find reasons not to be filled with dread.

That’s what Alan Shearer is attempting to do after his former club handed Wolves a fourth straight defeat.

Alan Shearer thinks Wolves can repeat a trick from last season

Vitor Pereira’s arrival at Wolves came as a result of a similarly woeful start under Gary O’Neil.

Wolves went winless for the first ten games of the season, and by December, the situation was deemed bleak enough to relieve O’Neil of his duties.

Wolves would go on to lift themselves out of the relegation zone under Pereira, and Shearer thinks a similar feat is possible this time around.

Dissecting the weekend’s action on The Rest Is Football, the Newcastle legend points out that Wolves have been here before.

He says: “They looked a bit light up top and in front of goal, and that would be the worry for me. But didn’t they have a really poor start last year as well and came back?”

There’s no denying this has been a bad, bad start to the season, but the manager has shown an ability to improve his side. As long as he doesn’t meet the same fate as his predecessor first.

Gary Lineker is worried Vitor Pereira won’t get enough time to turn Wolves around

Gary Lineker responded to his co-host’s claims with concern over Pereira’s job security.

He says: “They did [make a comeback], but it did cost the manager his job, obviously, so he needs to turn it around.”

The next few games will be vital for Wolves, as they face teams they hope to leap in the coming months.

This period could determine Pereira’s future at Wolves.

As Lineker points out: “This season, I think with the next few games, they’ve got a few against clubs down the bottom or could probably be at some point down the bottom of the table.”

If Wolves can overcome the newly promoted sides, it would shift the mood around Molineux and make a repeat of last season’s resurgence feel possible.
