Wolves played out a goalless draw with Brighton on Monday – and there was another strong showing from Nelson Semedo.
Gary O’Neil‘s side took a point at the Amex Stadium, which was a good result considering the Seagulls are very strong at home.
Brighton have gotten the best of Wolves in recent times too, so taking a point against Roberto De Zerbi’s men was definitely a positive thing.
There were actually opportunities for Wanderers to steal a victory, with the likes of Pedro Neto, Matheus Cunha and Mario Lemina all going close.
Ultimately the finishing was just lacking a bit, but O’Neil was pleased with the performance and result after the game.
One man who is coming in for a fair bit of praise since last night’s game is Nelson Semedo – and the wing-back has actually come in for some acknowledgment from Alan Shearer for his performance…
Alan Shearer names Nelson Semedo in his latest Premier League Team of the Week

Following last night’s game, Shearer has now selected his latest Premier League Team of the Week, and there is a place for Semedo in defence.
He is the only representative for Wolves, and he certainly deserves his place.
On why he picked the Portugal international, Shearer said (premierleague.com): “A game-saving tackle, among others, to prevent Brighton from scoring.”
In the second-half, it looked as though Joao Pedro was going to put Brighton ahead when he was slipped in by Danny Welbeck. Pedro took the ball inside and was about to pull the trigger, but the rapid Semedo got back in the nick of time to make a crucial block.
This came after Semedo showed a cool head in the first half when he shielded a dangerous through ball intended for Welbeck back to Jose Sa.
Following last night’s game, Wolves legend Andy Thompson stated that Semedo has become a ‘more accomplished player’ this season.
Semedo has been top class for Wolves this season
Barring only a few games, Semedo has been brilliant this season for Wolves and has been proving that the club made a good decision triggering the extension option on his contract.
The 30-year-old hasn’t always convinced at Molineux. At times in the past, he has been questioned, especially over his defending.
But this term, Semedo has generally been very strong and does not get beaten easily or often. He has one of the highest tackle success rates in the division, and the star is finally starting to show some real consistency in old gold.
There is still room for improvement in Semedo’s game. Undoubtedly, he should be chipping in more goals and assists considering how high up the pitch he gets as a wing-back.
But right now, O’Neil must be delighted with his level – many Wolves fans certainly are.
