Alan Shearer gives Wolves a ‘glimmer of hope’ as he predicts the result vs Brentford

Alan Shearer has provided his verdict on Wolves’ match against Brentford on Saturday.

The former Newcastle forward typically swings negative in his predictions, and who can blame him? Wolves have been truly terrible this campaign.

The Old Gold are yet to win a league game this season, and failing to beat Brentford hands them an unwanted Premier League first.

However, Shearer has provided a more positive outlook in his preview of the game this week, joining Chris Sutton in that opinion.

Can Wolves finally win a Premier League game this weekend?

Wolves will enter Christmas Day as the team at the rock bottom of the Premier League, but fans will be hoping for at least some festive joy before then.

The game against Brentford will be the final chance for supporters to see their side win a game before that day, but despite Alan Shearer holding more optimism this week than normal, he suspects that the wait for a first victory of the campaign will continue.

Shearer said (via Metro), “Wolves have given themselves a little glimmer of hope because of that performance last weekend. I mean, everyone, I guess, other than Arsenal fans, felt sorry for Wolves and their performance last week, getting nothing out of that game.

“Brentford are in poor form after a good run of results before that. It doesn’t seem as if they can get a win. I’m going to go for a draw. I’ll go a point apiece.”

While Shearer’s outlook will be appreciated, the prospect of a single point at this stage does not exactly appeal.

If Rob Edwards truly believes he can keep Wolves up, he must go for the win on Saturday.

Wolves need to give fans something to cheer about this season

If survival is out of the question for many fans, then at least getting three points against the Bees could provide a little bit of pride for the club.

At the moment, the Wanderers are quickly hurdling down the path to breaking Derby County’s lowest-ever points total.

That is a record that must be avoided at all costs.

Not only to preserve an ounce of dignity, but also to save this poor Wolves side from being unceremoniously stamped into Premier League history.

A win right before Christmas could do a lot to lighten the mood.
