Wolves went nine points clear of the relegation zone after beating Southampton 2-1 at St. Mary’s Stadium and Alan Shearer has now delivered an emphatic verdict on the relegation battle.
Vitor Pereira’s side took all three points down on the south coast, with Jorgen Strand Larsen at the double for the visitors.
The Norwegian scored his eighth and ninth Premier League goals of the season, with Jean-Ricner Bellegarde providing assists on both.
It was a huge win for Wolves, who now have just a 1.8% chance of slipping back into the relegation zone according to new Opta data.
It’s starting to look rosy, and that Pereira will achieve his main objective of keeping Wolves in the top-flight.
And that is something Alan Shearer certainly believes will now happen.
Alan Shearer in no doubt about Wolves after latest win over Southampton

It’s been a poor season for Wolves, but the ship has certainly been steadied since Pereira replaced Gary O’Neil.
The Portuguese has now taken 23 points from his 13 Premier League games so far, and thankfully Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton have all barely picked up points since Pereira came to Molineux.
Pereira played down the nine-point gap after the win over Southampton, as you would expected.
But he must be delighted internally, and pundit Alan Shearer now believes the relegation battle is definitely over for Wolves.
Insisting the current bottom three will go down, he said on Match of the Day last night: “It is done, yeah. That was a big, big win for Wolves today. I’ve never held too much hope anyway for the three promoted teams. They’ve struggled for large parts of the season.”
Wolves must see Premier League survival job through
This was undoubtedly a huge win for Wolves, as Shearer said.
Wanderers were not at their best, but ultimately the quality of the opposition was always going to present a major opportunity to increase the gap.
Had Wolves lost against the Saints, that would have potentially been quite damaging psychologically.

Wolves are now in a great position, with many pundits tipping the current bottom three to go down just like Shearer.
But Wolves fans won’t take anything for granted until survival is mathematically secure – and Pereira will no doubt be drumming that mentality into his players for the coming games.
It’s West Ham United and Ipswich up next for Wolves after the international break and a draw and a win will surely yield a big enough points tally to survive.
