Dion Sanderson officially left Wolves over the weekend to join Birmingham City – and the defender has been receiving a lot of messages.
The 23-year-old has departed Molineux, where he had been since the age of eight.
In the end, Sanderson only made one first-team appearance for Wanderers.
That came in the Carabao Cup against Aston Villa a few seasons ago.
He’s had a few loan spells away from Wolves, impressing with the likes of Birmingham and QPR in the Championship.
In the end, it seems he just wasn’t quite at the level to break into the first-team squad.
He’s now set for a new challenge, and many have wished Sanderson well on social media.
Adama Traore and others react as Dion Sanderson leaves Wolves
Sanderson has posted a couple of times on Instagram since news of exit dropped this weekend.
Sanderson’s first post was about his time at Wolves.
Uploading a picture of him as a youngster at the academy, he wrote: “Thank you @wolves for everything you have done for me for the years I have been there. You’ve made me the person I am today and will be forever grateful.”
Hundreds commented, including some players.
Adama Traore, who is also currently no longer a Wolves player following the expiry of his contract, said: “Brother I wish you all the best all love you know.”
Conor Coady, another outgoing at Wolves this summer, added: “Good luck my brother.”
Max Kilman and Hugo Bueno also left supportive emojis.
Matt Hobbs says Wolves made ‘great’ business decision over Sanderson
Wolves and Birmingham have chosen not to disclose the transfer fee for Sanderson.
But Wolves’ sporting director Hobbs has spoken about the move, and he insists it’s a good deal for Wanderers.
He also states that Wolves have managed to protect themselves with a sell-on clause.

He said (via Wolves official): “He’s has had lots of successful loans, but he really wanted to find a permanent home. He was very comfortable at Birmingham, and we were able to negotiate a fee that we were looking for, as well as protecting ourselves in case Dion kicks on again through sell-on clauses and bonuses.
“As a business decision it’s great, but most importantly, this move is about being able to give Dion a career and a home where he can really settle and be part of something.”
