A highly unusual statistic about Wolves star Joao Gomes has emerged, it’ll surely worry Pereira

Joao Gomes is one of the best players in the whole Wolves squad, but one statistic has emerged that Vitor Pereira might find concerning.

Joao Gomes is now into his third season at Molineux (and second full one) after signing for the club from Flamengo in January 2023.

The Brazilian has constantly improved in a Wolves shirt, to the point where he is now amongst the very best at Molineux.

Gomes is adored for his relentlessness in midfield, and supporters can tell he genuinely cares about this football club.

Unfortunately so far, Gomes has struggled to perform to his very best.

And the sub-par start saw Gomes miss out on a call up for Carlo Ancelotti’s latest Brazil squad.

By no means has he been among the worst performers for Wolves so far. But we know he can be much better than what he’s shown.

But there is one statistic about Gomes that may be a slight cause for concern.

Gomes is known for being a tenacious ball-winner.

The snarling Brazilian loves getting stuck in, and it’s not very often that he loses 50-50s.

Undoubtedly, he – and also Andre – are very difficult to bypass in midfield – but one statistic has emerged that is a little worrying.

WhoScored shared data earlier that shows Gomes is actually the most-dribbled past player in Europe’s top five leagues at the moment.

He’s been dribbled past nine times so far, which is massively surprising and something he’ll definitely be looking to fix.

Joao Gomes will turn his form around

This statistic will come as a huge surprise to supporters.

Gomes’ bread and butter is breaking up play and not letting people get past him.

So far, this seems to have happened quite often, and Pereira likely won’t be too happy to see that his midfield enforcer is getting beaten regularly.

But Gomes – who Dave Edwards says is one of three guaranteed starters at Wolves – will improve. He is certainly not the kind of player to put in poor performances for weeks on end.

He’s a determined character, and someone who’ll do everything he can to get back to his best. And hopefully that can happen as soon as possible.

If Gomes can get back to his usual solid self then that would be extremely ideal, and also welcomed by the backline he is protecting.
