£5m player sold by former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui is now in red-hot form

It was with a heavy heart for many that Raul Jimenez left Wolves in the summer.

The Mexican was one of several high-profile exits, as the club sought to balance the books and change things up ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Jimenez‘s exit had rather been on the cards, considering Julen Lopetegui had left him out of several matchday squads towards the end of the season.

But that didn’t really make it any easier for some fans when it finally came to his departure.

It was somewhat of a surprise to see Fulham come in for Jimenez, with most of the talk being about a potential move to Spain or him heading back to Club America.

In the end, Jimenez joined the Cottagers for around £5 million and he’s had a bit of a tough start – but things are looking up for the 32-year-old…

Jimenez has been heavily involved so far for Fulham, making 17 appearances across all competitions.

He started the first seven for Fulham, but could not find the back of the net and was then named on the bench against Sheffield United.

He was then a substitute for two of the next three, and things were looking bleak for Jimenez after the very short cameo he got against Manchester United. It was around this time that Jimenez was named one of the seven worst summer signings by Premier League clubs.

But in recent weeks, there has been an upturn for the star, and he has now hit four goals in Fulham’s last five Premier League games.

He got his first against Aston Villa in November, and last week, he hit a brace against Nottingham Forest and scored again against West Ham United.

Great to see

There is a small minority of Wolves fans that don’t particularly care for Jimenez given the strange situation with his injury last season, and representing Mexico at the World Cup.

The details around that were also a bit sketchy, but the optics weren’t good.

That said, Jimenez was an amazing servant for Wolves and deserves the well-wishes of the Molineux faithful.

He was a top player for Wanderers and is probably the best number nine since Steve Bull, who branded Jimenez ‘a superb player’ on his day, earlier this year.

He was sold on the watch of Lopetegui who did not seem to rate him, and most fans reluctantly felt it was probably the right time for him to leave when he did.

But given everything Jimenez has been through in recent years, it’s really good to see him scoring goals in the Premier League again.
