£3m star dubbed ‘magnificent’ after Spurs win as two other Wolves players also praised

Sky Sports pundit Michael Dawson raved over Wolves’ defenders yesterday, following another huge win for Wanderers over Tottenham Hotspur.

Wolves put the defeat against Brentford firmly behind them, and put in a top performance down in north London against Spurs.

Wolves ran out 2-1 winners, with Joao Gomes grabbing both goals for the visitors, either side of a Dejan Kulusevski equaliser.

Gomes was brilliant in midfield, and Brazilian manager Dorival Júnior would surely have enjoyed his performance having reportedly been in attendance.

Pedro Neto was also superb, making history by becoming the Wolves player with the most assists in the Premier League.

But former centre-back Michael Dawson moved to highlight the efforts of those at the back…

Wolves’ defence was always going to have to be on top form yesterday if Gary O’Neil‘s side were going to take any points.

Tottenham have some quality attacking players, including the world-class Heung-min Son, so having a strong backline was key.

And for the most part on Saturday, it was just that.

Wolves really stood firm, and Jose Sa also had a good game and made one very good save from Dejan Kulusevski in particular when the Swede struck from the edge of the box.

Speaking on Sky Sports News yesterday after covering the game, Dawson said: “I’m a huge fan of what Gary O’Neil is doing at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Absolutely unbelievable.

“How he’s got the team galvanised playing with a back three. Toti, Dawson who was absolutely magnificent, Kilman the captain, were all brilliant.”

Wolves defenders must get their flowers after Spurs win

Most of the talk has been about Joao Gomes and Pedro Neto after the win on Saturday, but the defenders should get their flowers too.

Tottenham have some dangerous players, so it was always going to be a test to keep them at bay.

£3 million star Dawson has come in for a bit of criticism recently for his performances for Wolves, with some feeling his level has dropped a little.

That may well be true, and he may feel as though he should have done better on Kulusevksi’s equalising goal, but that moment aside he was solid on Saturday.

Sofascore data indicates he made a whopping 10 clearances and made three blocks. He also won 7/9 duels he contested, and completed 24/28 passes (86%).

He, Kilman and Toti certainly played their part in one of Wolves’ best results of the season.
