25-year-old Wolves missed out on signs for PL rivals, Kalajdzic sends message

Wolves’ search for a new centre-back is still very much on, with previous target Konstantinos Mavropanos officially signing for West Ham United yesterday.

Gary O’Neil needs a need face through the door in the next week.

At the moment, he only has Craig Dawson, Max Kilman and Toti Gomes.

Proceeding with just three senior options would be a huge risk.

But Wolves’ financial situation is making life very difficult.

One man who definitely will not be coming to Molineux is Mavropanos, who yesterday signed for West Ham – and he has been wish well by Wolves star Sasa Kalajdzic.

Mavropanos is now back in the Premier League, having previously played for Arsenal.

According to the Guardian, West Ham have paid Stuttgart around £19 million for the Greek central defender.

A few weeks ago, Wolves were linked with a move for the 25-year-old. It was suggested that Wanderers had been keeping tabs on the player.

Of course, a move for him was always going to be unlikely.

But had Wolves shipped players such as Daniel Podence and Jonny Castro Otto out of the club, then there might have been a chance.

Following his move, Mavropanos and West Ham jointly announced the transfer on Instagram.

And Wolves striker Sasa Kalajdzic wished the star well.

Kalajdzic, of course, came to Wolves from Stuttgart and knows Mavropanos very well.

Mavropanos would have been a really good addition for Wolves.

It is frustrating because £19 million is not a massive fee in today’s market.

But Wolves just haven’t been financially capable of doing a deal.

Even with the potential sales of Jonny and Podence, it’s questionable if the club could have completed a move for Mavropanos.

It will now be very interesting to see how gets on in the Premier League again.
