£10m Wolves gem scores 94th-minute equaliser with big opportunity now around the corner

A rarely seen Wolves player hit a 94th-minute equaliser yesterday – and a big few weeks lie in store for him.

Fans have barely seen Enso Gonzalez since he signed for the club.

The youngster arrived at Molineux from Libertad in a £10 million deal (BBC Sport) two summers ago, but suffered a serious knee injury last year which really set him back.

He had been handed his Wolves debut at the end of the 2023/24 season and had been hoping to kick on.

But Gonzalez suffered an ACL injury while on duty for Paraguay, and then did not play in 2024/25.

Gonzalez is back in the picture now though, and enjoyed a confidence-boosting display yesterday.

Yesterday, Gonzalez turned out for the Paraguay U20s against Colombia at the CARFEM Women’s High Performance Center.

And it was a useful exercise for the Wolves man, who managed to score Paraguay’s equaliser in the 1-1 draw in the 94th minute in a development that Vitor Pereira will welcome.

It was the second of three warm up games for Paraguay, who next take on the Japanese National Team on Sunday, against whom Gonzalez will hope to make an impact once again.

The U20 World Cup in Chile will then commence September 27.

On what is their tenth appearance at the tournament, Paraguay are in a group with Panama, South Korea and Ukraine.

World Cup a platform for Gonzalez

Gonzalez’s move to Wolves has unfortunately not really worked out so far.

There were high hopes for him when he joined, and Gary O’Neil stated Gonzalez had ‘a lot of talent’.

But it quickly became apparent that Gonzalez wasn’t ready to play Premier League football, with O’Neil later admitting Gonzalez needed ‘a lot of work’.

The injury was very untimely, but Gonzalez now has the opportunity to turn some heads out in Chile.

Those back at Wolves will be watching him closely, and it will be important for him to make the most of his time with the U20s.

Some fans would like to hope there is still a chance for Gonzalez to make an impact for Wolves one day.

But with several players in the first-team squad who play in his position, it will certainly be a challenge for the South American youngster.
