Wolves were dealt a huge blow in their fight for Premier League survival at Molineux on Saturday afternoon.
Vitor Pereira‘s side suffered their four consecutive defeat in the English top flight at the hands of title-chasing Arsenal, leaving the club sitting in the relegation zone.
Following a brief honeymoon period under their new manager over the Christmas period, the Old Gold are now without a league win since their surprise Boxing Day victory over Man Utd. And with games against Aston Villa and Premier League leaders Liverpool next on the calendar, it’s hard to see where Wolves will get their next three points too.
Despite the doom and gloom around Molineux at the moment, captain Nelson Semedo was keen to send a positive message to fans after the 1-0 defeat to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on Saturday.
Nelson Semedo insists he believes ‘100%’ in the current Wolves team
Speaking to the club’s official website after the defeat, Semedo said six positive words in an attempt to uplift the spirits of a fanbase struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel right now, insisting:
“I believe 100% in this team.”
The club captain further elaborated on this point by hailing his “great teammates” and insisting that the squad are “working really hard” to get back to winning ways as soon as possible:
“My belief in this group is 200%. I know everybody’s working super hard to get out of this situation. I know the staff is working really hard as well, and they’ve helped us a lot since the day they arrived.

“I know we have a great team with great players. We have been playing against very good teams, it’s true, but I’m pretty sure that we’re going to work hard and we’re going to do better.”
Wolves manager Vitor Pereira keen to sign players before January transfer window closes
Despite Semedo’s faith in Wolves’ current crop of players, manager Pereira has made it clear that he wants a few more signings through the door before the transfer window shuts on Monday 3rd February.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Pereira said: “I am very confident [we will get signings] and very, very confident we will stay in the Premier League. I feel that inside.”
So far this January, the Old Gold have secured the services of centre-back Emmanuel Agbadou – who was one of the few bright spots in the loss to Arsenal at Molineux – and have been linked with a whole host of other players too.
Recently, a move for Manu Silva fell through at the 11th hour, with Benfica swooping in late to sign the midfielder, while a bid for Diego Carlos – who joined Fenerbahce – was rubbished by Molineux News‘ sources.
Fabrizio Romano has reported this week that Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso is now a target for the Molineux club, with a bid in the excess of £21m needed to pry him away from the La Liga outfit.
Molineux News also understands that Wolves have the intention to sign another centre-back too. Brighton’s Adam Webster is one of the potential options to fill this void in the Wolves squad.
