Wolves vs Bournemouth player ratings as one player gets an 8/10 but Toti Gomes lets his team down

A 10-man Wolves side couldn’t get back into the game after falling 1-0 behind in the first five minutes.

It was another long afternoon at the office for Wolves at the Vitality Stadium. They fell behind right from the off, and couldn’t get back into the game.

It didn’t help that Toti Gomes was sent off just after the break for taking down Evanilson. It’s the third straight edition of this tie to see someone sent off.

Wolves player ratings vs Bournemouth

Jose Sa – 7

The first goal was an unfortunate deflection, leaving the Portuguese stopper helpless. His next real call into action was to save a thumping effort from Tyler Adams in the 70th minute.

That only one goal went past him all afternoon is an achievement in and of itself.

Ki-Jana Hoever – 6

Hoever’s afternoon was cut short in the 35th minute after he picked up a knock while battling with Antoine Semenyo.

He did fine while he was out there, finding Strand Larsen with a good cross before being replaced by the debuting Tchatchoua.

Matt Doherty – 6

There were some really erratic moments from Doherty, including a high boot which he was lucky not to be booked for at the very least.

Emmanuel Agbadou – 6

The first goal was a deflection off Agbadou, but he was helpless to prevent it. Apart from almost colliding with Sa, Agbadou had a quiet game, but without the mistakes he has been guilty of lately.

He was careless in possession at times.

Toti Gomes – 3

Toti picked up a yellow card in the ninth minute for no justifiable reason.

The next time the Wolves captain did something of note was getting a straight red for taking out Evanilson as he was bearing down on goal. Not what you want to see from the leader of the side.

David Moller Wolfe – 6

Moller Wolfe didn’t stand out as having a terrible game, but he was taken off at half-time, and his replacement Hugo Bueno did make an instant impact.

Joao Gomes – 7

Gomes had his work cut out for him today against an intense, physical Bournemouth midfield. He was one of the only players trying hard to progress the ball, so he should get some credit.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 5

The Frenchman’s afternoon started as badly as it could have, giving away the ball for Bournemouth’s first while trying to dribble out from the back.

He wouldn’t make much more of a contribution before being subbed off at the break.

Marshall Munetsi – 5

Munetsi was a non-factor in today’s game. Pereira will surely look to Fer Lopez next week for more creativity in the frontline.

Jhon Arias – 6

Making his full Premier League debut, Arias was perhaps quieter than fans would have liked. One thing that stood out was his incredible work rate and desire to get stuck into tackles and blocks.

He was the casualty of Toti’s red card, coming off for Santi Bueno.

Jorgen Strand Larsen – 6

Maybe the recent speculation around Strand Larsen’s future has him distracted, but it was an uneventful showing from the Wolves striker. He was completely isolated up top and showed little threat.

That can’t all be attributed to him, though.

Substitutes

Jackson Tchatchoua – 8

Getting his debut earlier than he must have anticipated, Tchatchoua looked extremely promising. He was aggressive going forward, running with serious pace and power, and seemed to energise the Wolves attack upon introduction in the first half.

He was equally exciting on the defensive end, tracking Semenyo the length of the pitch and sliding in at the last moment to prevent a certain goal.

Andre – 7

Vitor Pereira’s decision not to start Andre was a head-scratcher, and his introduction at halftime was the right call. Wolves became far more solid in the second half, even after the sending off.

Hugo Bueno – 7

Hugo Bueno added more to Wolves’ attacking play when he came on, but once the red card was issued, his role became much more defensive.

Santi Bueno – 6

The Spaniard was introduced after Toti’s sending off, and was a contributor to Wolves’ defensive solidity in the closing stages.

Hwang Hee-chan – N/A

Hwang got the nod to come on despite heavy links to Crystal Palace. He didn’t have much time to make an impact.
