Wolves v Watford postponed

Wolves’ Boxing Day clash with Watford has been postponed due to the number of Covid cases in Claudio Ranieri’s squad.

Wolves have not missed a game so far because of the outbreaks across the Premier League but the Hornets called off their last game with Crystal Palace.

Before that, they also did not play against Burnley, which means they are facing some fixture congestion when they do eventually return to action.

After the decision was made, Wolves posted a statement about the news on the club website.

It read: “Wolves’ Boxing Day fixture against Watford has been postponed after a request made by the visitors to the Premier League was accepted due to rising Covid-19 cases.

“The decision was taken with guidance from medical advisors, with Watford suffering an ongoing outbreak of positive Covid-19 cases, leaving them with an insufficient number of first-team players available to fulfil the game.

“A request was made to the Premier League board by Watford a decision was made quickly, to provide sufficient notice to supporters of both clubs planning to attend the fixture, initially scheduled for 12.30pm on Sunday.

“Tickets will be valid for the rearranged date and refunds are available by emailing Fan Services.”

Due to players coming out of isolation, it is fully expected Watford will be available for their fixture on Tuesday 28 December, against West Ham.

So it is seemingly just a timing issue, with the game coming just too soon for Watford to be able to be competitive.

The game represented a chance for Wolves to get back to winning ways but will now be played at a later date.
