Wolves star warned he disappointed Vitor Pereira ‘more than anyone’ against Brighton

Wolves suffered defeat against Brighton in the penultimate game of the 2024/25 season at Molineux.

Vitor Pereira’s side have suffered back-to-back losses in the Premier League for the first time since January, as the Seagulls got the better of Wolves

Brighton beat Wolves 2-0 in an uneventful contest, as the Old Gold were far from their best over 90 minutes.

It was a disappointing display from the squad as several players performed below Pereira’s expectations, with one in particular having an outing to forget.

Goncalo Guedes slammed for not taking his chance vs Brighton

The Wolves manager made one change to his squad that lost to Manchester City, welcoming Goncalo Guedes to the starting XI.

It was the Portuguese forward’s first Premier League start since February, as Pereira showed trust in the 28-year-old to show his worth.

Unfortunately, Guedes did the opposite, as journalist Liam Keen drew attention to the attacker’s inability to make his opportunity count.

“You talk about players taking their opportunity to be in the starting XI, we weren’t expecting Guedes to play, but he got that chance today and didn’t come anywhere near taking it,” Keen said in his Express and Star post-match reaction.

The Wolves expert went on to explain why Guedes’ poor performance was a disappointment for Pereira more than anyone else.

“That’s going to be a disappointing thing, probably for Vitor more than anyone, because you want these players taking opportunities that are awarded to them, and Guedes didn’t take his whatsoever.”

Pereira has demanded more from Guedes for some time, and against Brighton, the sporadically used forward was given a chance, one that he did not take.

Guedes let himself down in rare Wolves opportunity

Wolves fans have lost all trust in Guedes, with their faith far from rewarded by the player’s disastrous showing against Brighton.

It was unsurprising to see Pereira hook the 2022 signing after just 59 minutes, as Guedes struggled to make an impact, even when given the chance to score.

During his performance, Guedes recorded 0.52 expected goals (xG), reflected by the one big chance he missed to find the back of the net.

Aside from his lack of firepower in front of goal, the former Valencia star was largely anonymous, completing only 13 passes and losing possession six times.

There’s a growing feeling that the end of the road for Guedes at Wolves is in sight, and when taking his display against Brighton into account, it’s fair to envisage his future away from Molineux.
