Wolves problems grow as Man City could be handed double injury boost ahead of clash

Wolves are preparing for their Premier League clash against Manchester City after the international break.

Gary O’Neil’s task is not set to get any easier at Molineux, as the Old Gold battle the champions next in the Premier League.

It’s been a nightmare start for Wolves this season, who after seven games played in the league, sit bottom of the table with just one point.

You’d have to go back to April to relive the last time that O’Neil’s side secured three points in the Premier League, emphasising the issues that the manager has to overcome.

Man City handed possible injury boost ahead of Wolves clash

Unfortunately for O’Neil, things have to get more difficult before they can get better, as Wolves host Manchester City next in the Premier League.

The champions will arrive at Molineux having won five of their seven opening games, remaining undefeated in the top flight this term.

It’s set to be a monumental task for O’Neil’s side to get the better of Pep Guardiola’s machine, who are poised to become even stronger, as per the latest team news.

Manchester World reported that current absentees Kevin De Bruyne and Nathan Ake could return for the clash at Molineux after recovering from injury.

De Bruyne hasn’t played for City since mid-September, while Ake has been absent since the September international break.

Having the defender and the mastermind behind City’s power going forward available would be a concern for Wolves, who would have to contend with the duo.

There’s no guarantee that the pair will be match-fit for the duel with the Old Gold, giving O’Neil some hope that Guardiola will spare the hosts of the returnee’s quality.

The stage is set for Molineux to host a blockbuster against the champions, in what will kick off a possibly decisive run for O’Neil.

The Wolves boss’ job is under the microscope as a result of his squad’s poor start, with a result against City needed to inject some belief.

While the task on paper seems impossible, that’s far from the case, as those at Molineux know all too well from last season.

Last term, Wolves dealt City their first defeat of the campaign, beating Guardiola’s side 2-1 at home to kickstart their form.

An identical result would be appreciated this year, in what is set to be a hugely significant fixture in the Old Gold’s fight against a relegation battle.
