Wolves predicted XI to face Liverpool as Tolu Arokodare starts among three changes

Wolves travel to Anfield in hopes of ending their 17-game winless run, but facing Liverpool makes that all the more difficult.

Rob Edwards will have to get his starting XI spot on if the Old Gold want to have a chance at a shock result against the reigning Premier League champions.

Arne Slot is aware Wolves can cause Liverpool problems, after he watched the Wanderers in action against Arsenal.

It will be a performance of that standard that is required, and Edwards could stick to a similar shape from that match.

There are some injury concerns for Wolves heading into the game, and plenty of decisions for the head coach to make.

Defence

After impressing against Brentford, it would seem unfair for Jose Sa to drop to the bench. The 2-0 loss to the Bees could have been much worse without him, so he keeps his spot in goal.

Yerson Mosquera returns from suspension and goes straight back into the starting XI, alongside both Santiago Bueno and Matt Doherty in central defence.

Toti Gomes’ injury and Emmanuel Agbadou’s absence due to AFCON mean slim pickings for Rob Edwards in that area.

Hugo Bueno could feature, but with him only back from injury, we suspect he only makes the bench. David Moller Wolfe keeps his place at left wing-back.

On the other flank, Ki-Jana Hoever will provide a more defensive option, with Matt Doherty filling in at centre-back and Jackson Tchatchoua being seen as an offensive player.

Midfield

Over recent weeks, Liverpool have begun packing the middle of the pitch to frustrate their opponents, and Edwards will match that with a three-man cover for the defence.

Andre and Joao Gomes will not be surprise inclusions, but Ladislav Krejci makes the jump from the backline into the midfield.

The Czech was asked to complete the same job against Arsenal weeks prior.

Attack

Liverpool are sweating on the fitness of Ibrahima Konate, so the physical presence of Tolu Arokodare against an unnatural centre-back could open the door for Wolves to cause trouble.

Additionally, with a lack of risk-taking against Arsenal, Edwards could turn to Mateus Mane to partner the Nigerian up front.

The Old Gold will likely have few opportunities to strike and will need players to take brave decisions on the day to get a result.

Mateus Mane is a player who can provide that.

Overall, we are anticipating three changes from the loss to Brentford.

Rob Edwards has plenty on the line, including an unwanted managerial record. Additionally, Wolves could make history of their own for all the wrong reasons.

Hopefully, the Old Gold can turn their fortunes around and give the travelling pack something to cheer about on Saturday.
