Wolves are looking to pull off a huge upset in the Premier League on Sunday as Manchester City are the latest visitors to Molineux.
This fixture would normally fill supporters with dread, even if they were in form, never mind after losing six of their first seven games in the Premier League.
That is a position Wolves currently find themselves in; bottom of the table with one point to their name and a whopping 21 goals conceded.
Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
20 | 7 | 0 | 1 | 6 | 9 | 21 | -12 | 1 |
Gary O’Neil still commands the faith of the Wolves board but the 41-year-old has to turn the situation around soon, otherwise, the Wanderers hierarchy will be given no choice in the sack debate.
Man City isn’t a fixture that isn’t expected to see their fortunes change however, after O’Neil masterminded a 2-1 win over City last season, there is a glimmer of hope.
Wolves team news ahead of Man City
Some of Wolves first-team players are nursing injury problems. Hwang Hee-chan was injured on international duty with South Korea, going off an ankle issue in the match against Jordan.
It was feared that the attacker could be out for between 8-10 weeks but O’Neil luckily confirmed Hwang to be out for three to four weeks.
The 28-year-old joins a few players on the physio bench, with Yerson Mosquera sidelined for the entire campaign after injuring his ACL and MCL.
There is good news for another player, though, as Sasa Kalajdzic returned to the grass at Compton last week after sustaining another ACL injury while on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt in February.
O’Neil’s only other injury concerns are Enso Gonzalez, Bastien Meupiyou and Boubacar Traore, who is expected to return around Christmas.

Wolves predicted XI vs Man City
Wolves have two solid goalkeepers competing for the number one jersey. Jose Sa was ever-present last term but the arrival of Sam Johnstone has seen the Englishman wrestle the starting place from him.
That should remain the case here however, the first change O’Neil should make to the starting XI is the formation.
He’s used a 4-3-3 system in the first seven games but it hasn’t worked, with O’Neil reverting to his previous 3-4-3 formation.
In the case he does switch system, he should line up with Santi Bueno, Craig Dawson and Toti Gomes as his back three with Nelson Semedo and Rayan Ait-Nouri at wing-backs.
There is only space for two midfielders in this set-up and he could be the bold decision to drop captain Mario Lemina, who has been poor in recent weeks.
Lemina has previously been dubbed ‘terrific’ by Danny Murphy, but the Gabon international could be ousted from the side with Joao Gomes and Andre forming a double pivot.
As for his forward trio, Carlos Forbs should start on the right with Matheus Cunha on the left and Jorgen Strand Larsen continuing up front.
Wolves (3-4-3): Johnstone; Dawson, Bueno, Toti; Semedo, Andre, Gomes, Ait-Nouri; Forbs, Cunha, Strand Larsen.
