Wolves predicted XI, team and injury news as Andre starts vs Newcastle United

Wolves will be looking to get their first three points on the board as they host Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

Gary O’Neil’s men have encountered struggles in the opening stages of the 2024/25 campaign, recording just a point from their first three matches.

That came last time out as a screamer from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde secured Wolves a draw against Nottingham Forest.

O’Neil’s squad have since had a two-week break while many Wolves players were on international duty for their countries.

The Wanderers’ boss hopes his side will be ready to take on a Newcastle team that has taken seven points from a possible nine in the Premier League.

Alan Shearer has unsurprisingly predicted a 2-1 win for the Magpies against Wolves while Ian Wright and Roy Keane see a draw playing out at Molineux.

Wolves team news ahead of Newcastle

In his pre-match press conference on Friday, O’Neil supplied an injury update on three of his Wolves players.

Mario Lemina and Rayan Ait-Nouri both withdrew from their international squads through injury, with O’Neil since confirming that the Wanderers duo haven’t trained and will require ‘late checks’.

Yerson Mosquera was another who suffered a knock after scoring for Colombia against Argentina but despite not training on Friday, it was revealed that the 23-year-old didn’t have an injury.

The only other long-term absentees Wolves currently have are Enzo Gonzalez, Boubacar Traore and forgotten man Sasa Kalajdzic.

Wolves predicted lineup vs Newcastle United

Sam Johnstone made his Wolves debut in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest after signing on deadline day.

Johnstone will keep his place for the visit of Newcastle while O’Neil confirmed he expects Jose Sa to stay at Molineux after providing an update on his future.

Wolves lined up with a back four of Nelson Semedo, Mosquera, Craig Dawson and Toti Gomes against Forest and that should remain for Sunday’s match.

As for the midfield, O’Neil confirmed that Lemina would require a ‘late check’ and the ‘outstanding’ Wanderers captain could therefore drop out of the squad if he isn’t fit, with Brazilian Andre making his full debut alongside international teammate Joao Gomes.

They will be joined by Bellegarde on the right and Ait-Nouri on the left, providing he’s fit, otherwise, Hwang Hee-chan should start after scoring four goals in five against Newcastle.

The forward duo of Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen speaks for itself at the moment, with that duo a rare positive at the beginning of this season.
