Wolves predicted lineup, team and injury news as Tommy Doyle starts vs Burnley in Carabao Cup

Wolves return to action in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening as the Old Gold welcome Burnley to Molineux.

Gary O’Neil will be eager to see his side redeem themselves in front of a home crowd on Wednesday night following Sunday afternoon’s thrashing.

Chelsea came to Molineux and left with three points in a game that saw Wolves concede six goals at home for the first time since 2007.

Thanks to the quick turnaround in matches, the Old Gold have a shot at redemption to make the horrors that were seen in the second half against Chelsea a thing of the past.

Wolves team news and predicted line up to face Burnley in the Carabao Cup

Against Burnley, Wolves will go face to face with the Championship side who are in strong form ahead of the fixture.

The Clarets netted nine goals in their opening two league games of the season however, fell short most recently to Sunderland to suffer their first defeat of the campaign.

Wolves must capitalise on the chance to get the better of Burnley to rectify their mistakes against Chelsea.

O’Neil is expected to have a fully fit squad available to him for the outing, without the inclusion of Nelson Semedo who will sit this one out in the final game of his three match suspension.

Change in goalkeeper expected

Last season, Dan Bentley was fielded in the cup, which is expected to be the case this campaign.

Added to that, Jose Sa was far from convincing against Chelsea on Sunday, giving Bentley the chance to show what he can do following his rival’s abysmal display.

Defensive switch needed

While it’s unlikely that O’Neil will revert to a back five after Sunday’s defeat, the personnel at the back should change to face the Clarets.

Craig Dawson could come into central defence to partner Yerson Mosquera, seeing Toti Gomes move out to the left to replace Rayan Ait-Nouri, who was dire against the Blues.

As mentioned, Semedo remains suspended which could leave a vacancy for Pedro Lima to show his worth in a competitive fixture.

Daniel Podence could make his final appearance

In midfield, Boubacar Traore could be restored for the first time this season after sitting on the bench against Chelsea.

The Mali international could be partnered with Tommy Doyle, who will be eager to make his mark after a bright pre-season.

Further forward, Matheus Cunha is expected to keep his spot in the number ten role behind Jorgen Strand Larsen, which could open up a big chance on the flanks.

Daniel Podence could start on the right in what could be his final appearances for Wolves amid transfer interest, with a possible chance to see Ait-Nouri redeem himself on the left side, where he is far better suited.

Wolves predicted XI in full: Bentley; Gomes, Dawson, Mosquera, Lima; Traore, Doyle; Ait-Nouri, Cunha, Podence; Strand Larsen
