Wolves have been comfortably beaten by Newcastle United 3-0 in the Premier League this evening.
It’s back-to-back defeats for Vitor Pereira for the first time since his arrival at Molineux, and another case of no clean sheet at St. James’ Park for Wolves.
Alexander Isak scored a brace for the home side and Anthony Gordon then added a third. Newcastle’s surge up the Premier League table continues with a ninth straight win.
Wolves were very poor tonight, and rarely tested Martin Dubravka.
And it was the same old story, with Wolves poor defensively. Against players like Isak, that just couldn’t be the case if Wolves were to ever get anything from this game.
Here’s how Molineux News rated tonight’s Wolves players.
Wolves player ratings vs Newcastle

Jose Sa – 6/10
Could not have done anything for the opening goal by Isak, which took a big deflection off Ait-Nouri. Or the two that followed. It wasn’t actually a bad display from Sa despite the end result. Looked confident and decisive between the sticks.
Rodrigo Gomes – 6/10
Despite the poor Wolves performance as a collective, Rodrigo again looked lively and really suits the role of wing-back. It’s hard to believe how little he featured on Gary O’Neil. Replaced by Semedo in the second-half.
Matt Doherty – 3/10
A nightmare evening for Doc. Struggled up against Isak, who often pulled out to the left. Looked shaky, and played the Swede onside in the build-up to the third goal by Anthony Gordon. Booked.
Santiago Bueno – 4/10
His performance will have done little to convince the masses that he should be a regular starter for Wolves. Completely lost Isak on the second goal. Had a goal – which would have been his first for Wolves – ruled out for handball to cap off his night.
Emmanuel Agbadou – 4/10
In for his Premier League debut, but it was a game Agbadou will probably want to forget. He seemed nervous from the start, misplacing simple passes before a boisterous St. James’ Park crowd. Glenn Hodde felt Agbadou was shaky and it was hard to disagree. You get the sense he needs to play either in the middle of the back three or on the right.
Rayan Ait-Nouri – 4/10
A poor night for one of Wolves’ maverick players. Didn’t offer a great deal going forward and some will say he should have done more to block Isak’s shot which found the net in the first-half. Allowed Jacob Murphy far too much space on the throw-in that led to Newcastle’s second goal.
Joao Gomes – 4/10
Gomes struggled to impose himself in the game alongside Andre and was overpowered by Newcastle’s midfield trio. Slow to get near Joelinton on the second Isak goal. Replaced by Sarabia.
Andre – 5/10
Worked hard in midfield and won the ball back several times for Wolves, but struggled like Gomes against Newcastle’s midfield. Almost supplied a great assist for Guedes when he played him in with a low free-kick. Replaced by Doyle.
Goncalo Guedes – 5/10
Also worked hard and had some good carries but not enough actual threat from Guedes. But he was better than Hwang and Strand Larsen. Replaced by Bellegarde.
Jorgen Strand Larsen – 3/10
Seems to have misplaced his shooting boots in recent weeks. The chance he had in the first half that hit the post wasn’t straightforward, but you feel he might have taken that a few weeks ago. Should definitely have scored late on after a good cross from Ait-Nouri. A quiet night for the big man, who then didn’t provide in the big moments.
Hwang Hee-chan – 2/10
It was Hwang who lost the ball which ultimately led to the first goal by Isak. Vitor Pereira backed Hwang in his press conference, but it was another really poor display, from a man badly struggling for confidence right now. He again just couldn’t make any kind of impact, and was hooked at half-time for Cunha in a clear message that he wasn’t good enough. He surely won’t start at the weekend against Chelsea.
Substitutes
Matheus Cunha – 5/10
Replaced Hwang at the break. Was clearly lacking match sharpness and couldn’t provide any magic to get Wolves back into the game. Should have maybe scored with a chance he had from the edge of the box.
