Wolves were unlucky not to take a point away from Anfield. The Old Gold travelled to Liverpool and put in a valiant performance in their quest for Premier League survival but lost 2-1.
Despite a bright start, some poor play from Pablo Sarabia helped Luis Diaz open the scoring after just 15 minutes before Mo Salah doubled the Reds’ first-half advantage from the spot after 37 minutes.
Emmanuel Agbadou almost conceded a penalty in the second half before a VAR review rightfully saw Simon Hooper correct his on-field decision.
A series of changes in the second half offered the Old Gold hope, with Matheus Cunha bending a curled effort past Alisson from outside of the area just after the hour mark.

Wolves player ratings vs Liverpool
Jose Sa – 3
Failed to command his area and didn’t fill his defence with confidence.
Awful performance.
Nelson Semedo – 5
Did well to keep the width but overall, was ineffective and struggled to deal with the ever-busy Andy Robertson.
Subbed off for Pedro Lima in the closing stages.
Matt Doherty – 5
Didn’t do badly against tough opposition. Kept Diogo Jota quieter than most.
Emmanuel Agbadou – 6
Not his best performance but was always going to be tough away to Liverpool.
The Ivorian found it difficult to stop the Reds’ front three. Lucky not to have conceded a penalty before being subbed off with half an hour to play for Santiago Bueno.
Toti Gomes – 4
Although Pablo Sarabia’s wayward pass in the build-up to Liverpool’s opener will be the main talking point, Toti Gomes’ woeful clearance was significant too.
The defender gifted the ball to Luis Diaz, who would’ve found it harder to miss the back of the net than find it.
Rayan Ait-Nouri – 5
Similarly to Nelson Semedo on the opposite flank, Rayan Ait-Nouri was largely ineffective and offered nothing going forward.
Andre – 6
Found it difficult in spells throughout the first half but persisted and ensured Wolves kept their shape.
Continuing to build a solid midfield partnership with Joao Gomes.
Joao Gomes – 6
Not his best game in a Wolves shirt, but, like Andre, he helped the side keep their shape. It was a much more disciplined performance from the Brazilian, too.
Subbed off for Tommy Doyle with a few minutes to go.
Goncalo Guedes – 3
Offered nothing. Literally nothing. May as well have stayed in the Midlands.
Subbed off at half time for Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
Pablo Sarabia – 2
Wolves’ worst player in the first half — at fault for Liverpool’s opener.
Will be lucky to start another game this season.
Subbed off at half time for Marshall Munetsi.
Matheus Cunha – 7
Quiet for 65 minutes but then came to life and changed the game like he so often does.
Unleashed an inch-perfect curled effort from outside the area to beat Alisson.
What a finish from Matheus Cunha! 🤩🟠 pic.twitter.com/bigtattFgw

Subs
Marshall Munetsi – 6
Came close to scoring on his first full debut but was denied by Alisson.
Marshall Munetsi will definitely be starting against Bournemouth though.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 7
Made a clear impact after coming on off the bench. Helped nit things together in the final third; proven by his assist for Cunha’s goal.
His latest showing will give Pereira a selection dilemma ahead of the side’s next outing.
Santiago Bueno – 6
Fitted in well at the back and certainly didn’t make Wolves worse.
Proved a good option to have.
