Wolves player ratings vs Ipswich Town, two forwards earn 9/10s in Premier League safety-securing win

Wolves secured a vital comeback win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road thanks to goals from Pablo Sarabia and Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Wolves played with a real swagger at times in the final third during the first half, with the in-form duo of Jorgen Strand Larsen and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde both having decent sights of goal early on. At the other end, however, things weren’t quite as pretty.

In the 16th minute, some lax defending from first Rayan Ait Nouri at the back post and then Emmanuel Agbadou in the middle of the box led to Ipswich Town taking a 1-0 lead.

Ait Nouri was beaten too easily in the air by Dara O’Shea, who headed the ball in the path of the unmarked Liam Delap, and the striker that many Wolves fans would hope to replace Matheus Cunha in the summer made no mistake with his subsequent finish.

Vitor Pereira‘s side pressed forward with real intent thereafter in search of an equaliser, coming closest through a long-range effort from Joao Gomes, who rattled the right post with a thunderous strike.

A tactical change to add a few more bodies to the attack proved to be enough to finally break Ipswich down in the 74th minute. The goal would come courtesy of substitute Pablo Sarabia, who wrapped a half-volley smartly into the bottom corner of the net from just inside the penalty area.

Soon after, Wolves secured all three points courtesy of Larsen’s fourth goal in his last three games. The striker gleefully swept home a clever first time low cross from Sarabia to make it 2-1.

Wolves player ratings vs Ipswich Town

Jose Sa – 6/10

The goalkeeper couldn’t do anything about the goal conceded.

Matt Doherty – 5/10

Subbed off in the 68th minute when Wolves were searching for an equaliser. It was a generally quiet afternoon for Doherty, who made just five defensive actions before being hooked off.

Emmanuel Agbadou – 4/10

Faced the toughest test of his short Premier League career thus far up against the powerful Delap on Saturday. The centre-back should’ve been a lot more alert in the heart of the penalty area to prevent Delap from opening the scoring.

Toti Gomes – 7/10

The most impressive of Wolves’ back three on the day. Toti Gomes won five duels, made six clearances and won 100% of his tackles.

Nelson Semedo – 6/10

The Wolves captain, heavily linked with a move to Benfica in the summer, wasn’t quite at his best on the right-hand side and struggled to provide much in the attacking third.

Joao Gomes – 7/10

Fresh off signing a contract extension at Wolves, Gomes was as lively as ever in the middle of the park. He came within a whisker of scoring a stunning goal in the second half, seeing an effort from 25-yards crash off the post.

Andre – 7/10

Another busy outing from the Brazil international. He rarely put a foot wrong in possession, as his 94% pass completion rate attests.

Rayan Ait Nouri – 5/10

The wing-back, in his 150th appearance for the club, was beaten way too easily in the air by Dara O’Shea in the lead up to Ipswich’s opening goal of the game.

Marshall Munetsi – 5/10

A willing runner but didn’t threaten the Ipswich Town defence too much. He may be the man that’s replaced by the returning Matheus Cunha in the starting XI next weekend.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 5/10

Saw one half-decent chance fall his way in the first half, but aside from that he didn’t stamp his authority on the game in the way he has done so frequently in recent weeks.

Jorgen Strand Larsen – 9/10

Largely kept quiet until a moment of real class in the lead up to Sarabia’s goal. The striker controlled the ball brilliantly to get that attack going, and earn his side a crucial point in the process. He then went on to score the crucial goal of the game, firing home the winner in the final ten minutes.

Substitutes

Rodrigo Gomes – 5/10

Pablo Sarabia – 9/10

The Spanish attacker completely changed the game when he came on. He scored a wonderful, and crucially important goal to level the scores, before setting up the winner. This performance may be his parting gift to Wolves fans.
