Wolves’ search for a first Premier League win continues, with the team losing 3-2 with Burnley at Molineux.
It was a game that Vitor Pereira had suggested was must-win, and Wolves have frustratingly come up short once again. There will now be speculation about the manager’s future.
Wolves found themselves 2-0 down thanks to a brace from Zian Flemming, who took advantage of some poor defending.
Molineux was threatening to get toxic, with Wolves fans chanting for Fosun to sell the club with Burnley looking comfortable.
But somehow, Wanderers managed to get back into the game, with Santiago Bueno winning a penalty, which Jorgen Strand Larsen converted, before Marshall Munetsi equalised on the stroke of half-time.
Wolves dominated possession in the second-half, and spent a long time knocking on the door. Jhon Arias came so close with a free-kick that hit the woodwork.
But then right at the death, Burnley came to life again, as Lyle Foster sprung the offside trap after the ball was overturned. He slipped by Jackson Tchachoua and finished past the onrushing Sam Johnstone.
It was a heartbreaking end for Wolves, who had shown good character to get back into the game. But we and Pereira will now see how the board views this performance and result.
Wolves player ratings vs Burnley

Sam Johnstone – 5
Nothing he could really do about the Burnley goals.
Ki-Jana Hoever – 4
Preferred to Jackson Tchatchoua at right-back in what was a surprise decision from Vitor Pereira. OK defensively, but his quality in the final third was really disappointing. Replaced by Jackson Tchatchoua.
Santiago Bueno – 4
Was too weak on Burnley’s second goal, being outmuscled by Flemming to score. But made amends to win Wolves’ penalty.
Ladislav Krejci – 5
A mixed bag for Krejci, who nearly made a huge error in the first-half in a defensive mix up that was ultimately sorted out by Johnstone. Was otherwise fairly solid though and got the assist for Munetsi’s header.
Hugo Bueno – 5
Bueno was a decent outlet for Wolves and linked up well with Rodrigo Gomes. A few teasing balls in.
Andre – 4
Needed to dominate today but just couldn’t get a foothold in the game. Was bypassed too easily at times. Replaced by Joao Gomes.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 6
He actually didn’t start this game too well, but Bellegarde grew into the contest. He was trying to be creative from midfield, and he did superbly well in the build up to Wolves’ second goal, retaining the ball and working the space before crossing for Krejci to find Munetsi.
His directness caused problems for Burnley and he protected the ball effectively. But his turnover led to Burnley’s winner.
Marshall Munetsi – 4
Scored, but it was a poor performance from Munetsi. Made a hash of a late breakaway.
Rodrigo Gomes – 6
Lively as usual, but struggled at times against the much more physical Kyle Walker. Might have been a totally different game had Rodrigo converted an early chance on the breakaway. He was positive.
Jhon Arias – 5
It still isn’t happening for Arias, whose wait for a first Wolves goal continues. So, so unlucky not to open his account with his free-kick that crashed off the bar in the second-half. Replaced by Hwang Hee-chan.
Jorgen Strand Larsen – 5
Strand Larsen was Wolves’ captain today, but it was far from an inspired performance up top. Struggled to have influence. Held his nerve from the penalty spot to get Wolves back into the game, but there is surely scope for Tolu Arokodare to play ahead of him next weekend.
Substitutes
Joao Gomes – 5
Injected a bit of intensity. It must have hurt the Brazilian to be dropped to the bench.
Hwang Hee-chan – 4
Came on to play on the left but did not offer a threat.
Jackson Tchatchoua – 4
Was strangely conservative when he came on. It felt like he could have opened his legs more and been more direct. Played Foster onside for the Burnley winner.
