Wolves player ratings vs Arsenal, Emmanuel Agbadou shines on Molineux debut but substitute gets 2/10

Wolves suffered their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat in a drama-filled contest against Arsenal.

Things were going so well for Vitor Pereira’s side, who had clearly taken criticism on board after Wolves’ defeat to Chelsea last time out.

Matt Doherty made the headlines from a Wolves point of view in the first half, as the Irishman was fouled to see Myles Lewis-Skelly controversially sent off.

Instead of taking advantage of the Gunners’ misfortune, Wolves instead joined Arsenal with ten men, as Joao Gomes was then sent off.

Riccardo Calafiori broke the deadlock moments later to break hearts at Molineux – on a frustrating afternoon, here’s how the players rated.

Wolves player ratings vs Arsenal

Jose Sa – 6

Sa played a few loose passes early on however, the Portuguese certainly redeemed himself with a goal-saving stop against Kai Havertz.

Rayan Ait-Nouri – 6

Ait-Nouri’s display against Chelsea was certainly improved when the Algerian came up against Arsenal.

While the left-back had his defensive head on, the 23-year-old shone brightest when going forward, which is no surprise.

Emmanuel Agbadou – 8.5

Agbadou is growing into his role at Wolves game-upon-game, on his home debut, the Ivorian certainly impressed, denying Arsenal’s attack countless times.

Santi Bueno – 5.5

Bueno did his job against Arsenal but at times was shown up by the strength of those around him in Wolves’ back five, the Uruguayan is a reminder of the change needed in the transfer window.

Matt Doherty – 6.5

Doherty was the talk of the match as Lewis-Skelly was sent off for fouling the Irishman.

Aside from the theatrics of the controversial red card, the Wolves veteran was impressive defensively against Arsenal, winning the majority of his duels.

Nelson Semedo – 7

It was a captain’s performance from Semedo, who caused Arsenal problems on the right side, playing several dangerous passes forward.

Joao Gomes – 5

Gomes was exactly what Wolves needed in midfield for the most part however, his temperament must be managed.

The midfielder was walking a tightrope after his booking and failed to change his approach.

Pereira was visibly furious with the Brazilian as he walked down the tunnel, and for good reason.

Andre – 7

Andre was cool and composed against Arsenal, considerate in his passing and tackling, which his teammate Gomes must learn from.

Pablo Sarabia – 4

Sarabia had a sumptuous chance to make it 1-0 early on however, was unable to finish a move created by Semedo.

Aside from his early chance, the Spaniard offered very little, looking tired and tested when a spark was needed against the ten men of Arsenal.

Matheus Cunha – 6.5

Cunha had several chances to score, one an ambitious effort and the other an agonising miss.

The forward wasn’t at his very best against the Gunners but still managed to threaten when on the ball.

Jorgen Strand Larsen – 6

It was an unfortunate afternoon for Strand Larsen, who was withdrawn early due to injury.

Before being taken off, the Norweigan’s movement was encouraging as he looked to make things happen for those around him.

Substitutes

Hwang Hee-chan – 5

Pereira was forced to call on Hwang as Strand Larsen came off injured, which was a decision that impacted Wolves going forward.

Wolves fans were unimpressed by Hwang as the Korean failed to pull off even the simplest of things.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 2

Terrible cameo for Bellegarde who is not doing himself any favours amid criticism since his arrival in 2023.

Tommy Doyle – N/A

Rodrigo Gomes – N/A

Goncalo Guedes – N/A
