Wolves must take note of ‘mistake’ Chelsea make at Stamford Bridge – Enzo Maresca admitted it

Wolves are preparing to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as Vitor Pereira aims to bounce back.

After making Wolves history with his fast start to life at Molineux, Vitor Pereira watched his side suffer back-to-back defeats.

Wolves’ recent defeat to Newcastle saw the Old Gold fall back towards the bottom three, as Pereira’s squad sit level on points with 18th-place Ipswich Town.

Pereira could make several changes to face Chelsea as Wolves’ desperation to pick up points grows.

Wolves must exploit Chelsea weakness noticed by Enzo Maresca

While Chris Sutton believes that Chelsea could ‘wipe the floor’ with Wolves, the Old Gold must carry some confidence with them to the capital.

The game is not won or lost before it’s kicked off, with motivation needed ahead of the important clash.

As well as carrying belief from the 4-2 win over Chelsea last season, Pereira’s side must take note of one error the Blues keep making at Stamford Bridge.

“When we play away against teams who sit back we are calmer, we don’t rush, sometimes when we are at home we want to play quick because we want to show to our fans how hard we are trying to win, but this is a mistake,” Enzo Maresca admitted to the media.

The Chelsea manager went on to explain the differences he notices from his team depending on the opponent.

“Against some teams that press you can attack quick. Like against Bournemouth, they were aggressive and we attacked so many times, so it depends. But probably away from home, because of the behaviour of the other team, it can be better.”

The ‘mistake’ that Maresca owned up to should be studied by Wolves, who could take advantage of Monday night’s hosts by exploiting the errors the Blues keep making.

Chelsea’s record at home is far from perfect, as Wolves should notice, having won just four from 10 at Stamford Bridge this term, conceding 13 goals and keeping only one clean sheet.

Wolves’ record at Stamford Bridge

Sitting near the bottom three having lost their previous two league fixtures 3-0, Wolves need to seek inspiration before meeting Chelsea.

The Old Gold beat the Blues 4-2 at the Bridge last season, as Matheus Cunha took matters into his own hands, scoring a hat-trick in West London.

The win was Wolves’ first at Stamford Bridge since 1979, with the Midlands side having little luck at the venue in recent years.

That being said, out of the Old Gold’s previous five trips to the Bridge, Wolves have lost twice, won once and drawn twice, giving some encouragement before Monday night.

It’s all to play for in a Monday night showdown, with a big performance needed from Pereira’s squad.
