Wolves just matched an atrocious PL record after 2-0 defeat to Brentford, it shames Fosun

Wolves’ miserable season continued on Saturday, as Brentford won 2-0 at Molineux.

The Old Gold were presented with a decent opportunity to move off two points, with the Bees having not been in particularly good form going into the match.

For a lot of the game Wolves did OK defensively, and Jose Sa managed to keep Wanderers in the contest with some saves.

But in the second-half, some woeful defending saw Keane Lewis-Potter break the deadlock. He then added a second after a turnover by Wolves.

Wolves had the chance to get back into the game late on when Jorgen Strand Larsen had a penalty. But the striker fluffed his lines, leading to chants from fans.

Jeff Shi may have resigned as Wolves chairman on Friday night, but it was another dismal day for Wolves on the pitch – and the club have now equalled a shocking Premier League record.

Wolves fans knew this season would be tough.

But no one could have imagined things would be quite this bad, with Wolves stuck on two points from 17 games.

As a result of yesterday’s defeat to Brentford, it means Wolves will remain on two points on Christmas Day. And that is the joint-lowest points tally ever, after Sheffield United got the same haul in the 2020/21 season.

And if we are to look at English league history as a whole, just one other side managed two points in their first 17 games of the season.

That was Newport County in the fourth tier all the way back in 1970/71.

Fosun have destroyed Wolves as records continue

It is utterly damning of Fosun that Wolves have now equalled the record for lowest points haul at Christmas.

The owners may have done great work in their early years at Molineux, but their management over the last five years or so has resulted in this mess.

Wolves’ abysmal start has seen them set several records so far, and unfortunately more could be set and broken with the way things are going.

Many fans are growing increasingly concerned that the Derby County final points haul will be broken by Wolves.

Certainly, it’s hard to see where the 10 more points needed to avoid that record are going to come from.
