Wolves have struck absolute gold with Matheus Nunes

Wolves recorded their first Premier League win of the season against Southampton – and Matheus Nunes showed exactly why there was so much hype around his signing.

Bruno Lage’s side ran out 1-0 winners at Molineus thanks to a lovely goal on the break from Daniel Podence.

The Saints pushed for an equaliser in the second-half.

But the Wolves’ defence held firm, and it is a huge three points considering the fixtures that lie in wait.

Wolves fans were treated to a really good performance from Nunes yesterday.

The 24-year-old was the star signing for the club this summer, and fans were absolutely delighted Wolves managed to snap him up.

He was very coveted, and could easily have played for a Champions League club.

Against the Saints his energy was absolutely superb.

The Portugal international was up and down the pitch all game, supporting the frontline and getting back in to support Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho.

It was he that provided the ball across for Daniel Podence to score, after Pedro Neto had fed him down the right side.

That was a run he constantly made yesterday, and is something we can probably get used to seeing from him.

The star won 9/14 duels according to Sofascore data. He also made two key passes.

It was without doubt his best showing in Wolves colours so far, and he is only going to get better the more he gets used to the Premier League.

Wolves have struck gold with Matheus Nunes after brilliant showing against Southampton

As expected, Nunes is a complete gamechanger of a signing for Wolves.

This is the player the club has been crying out for at least a couple of years now.

His energy, tenacity and dynamism in the engine room is fantastic to see. But he also has the technical qualities to boot, and is very intelligent with the runs he makes.

He gets through a lot of work, so hopefully he is able to stay fit for Wolves.

Should he do that, then Wanderers will be in brilliant shape this season.
