Wolves went down early against Sunderland after a well-worked goal from Nordi Mukiele, but fans aren’t happy the goal stood.
Wolves‘ clash with Sunderland provided little encouragement for fans of the away side.
Sunderland were dominant in possession and Wolves didn’t look threatening going the other way.
Sunderland went ahead courtesy of a Nordi Mukiele goal, but something that happened leading up to the opener has Wolves fans furious with the referee.
Wolves fans spot Sunderland’s foul throws
Mukiele has been the man to take long throws for Sunderland and they’ve been causing problems. It’s a Premier League trend that seems to be sticking.

The first goal, which came after just 16 minutes, was a fine passing move that found Mukiele running onto the ball just a few yards out from goal. Nothing wrong with that.
But the goal came in the second phase of a long throw set-piece, where the goalscorer appears to have committed a foul, lifting his left leg as he hoisted the ball in.
Fans were quick to point it out. One says: “Originally came from the long throw. I’ve just rewatched it. It’s a foul throw with one foot off the ground when he throws it.”
Another agrees, saying: “Long throw from Sunderland is a foul throw, watch the feet….just saying.”
The fans weren’t alone in their frustration. The Wolves bench were protesting as well, but the referee didn’t react.
“Comms said Wolves bench says Mukiele’s feet off ground on throw ins. They’re absolutely right. It’s foul throw every time.”
What exactly is VAR for then?
Ladislav Krejci’s own goal adds insult to injury
Ladislav Krejci’s injury-time own-goal told the story of Wolves’ afternoon.
A frustrating moment from a player who has been brilliant since arriving at Molineux.

The 2-0 scoreline is probably a fairer reflection on the match itself, but to concede in that fashion with just minutes to play will have stung both for the Czech and the fans.
The foul throws were frankly ridiculous, and it beggars belief that they weren’t called out. But Wolves deserved to lose this game, and in the end, the first goal didn’t decide the tie.
All in all, a frustrating day at the office once again.
