Wolverhampton Wanderers have beaten Coventry City 2-1 in their latest pre-season friendly match.
Bruno Lage made a string of changes to freshen up his starting XI following yesterday’s game against Stoke City.
Senior stars like Conor Coady, Romain Saiss, Raul Jimenez and Nelson Semedo all dropped out at the Ricoh Arena.
The likes of Christian Marques, John Ruddy, Fabio Silva, Ki-Jana Hoever all came in for starts.
It was a good start from Wolves, with Silva scoring after just seven minutes.
The teenager found himself unmarked at the far post to convert Adama Traore’s low cross from the left.
Wolves doubled their lead early in the second-half; Ruben Neves curling an effort first time from the edge of the box into the far corner.
Coventry then hit back immediately from the penalty spot, with Hoever fouling his man after failing to control the ball.
Overall it was a decent performance from Wolves, and there were stages of good crisp passing and the pressing was fairly intense again.
But Lage’s side were probably slightly fortunate to come away with the win.
The hosts did threaten quite a lot in the game and often got runners in behind the Wolves defence.
And although no goals were conceded from set-pieces today, the defending in those situations was far from convincing.
While Wolves got the win, many supporters have been on social media calling for the signing of a new central defender before the new season kicks off:
Get the chequebook out Jeff.. #wwfc

Set pieces are a huge worry.
We look like we’re going to concede every time the opposition gets a corner or free kick around the area.
Still three players short; a CB, CM and a Striker required urgently.

Wolves cannot go into another season playing defensive midfielders as CBs its gone boring and stale #wwfc

Unless we buy a CB and quick I honestly fear for us. #wwfc I know its only pre season but not been the best as it.

Great finish from Neves and good anticipation from Silva, but the elephant in the room is at CM and CB lads…please give Bruno the tools he needs to do the job🤞🏼

If we don’t sign a CB in the next week I’ll be scared #wwfc

Was 2 games in 2 days a good idea? Probably not.
Highlights the massive need for a CB, and a proven one at that.
Dunk,Tarkowski, even Bartley from them lot – just someone who knows how to defend. #wwfc— jon dent (@jon306) August 1, 2021
Good lord we need a CB badly. #wwfc
