Wolverhampton Wanderers have beaten Southampton 2-1 in the Premier League, thanks to a stunning goal from Pedro Neto.
The Wanderers executed a successful revenge mission on Ralph Hasenuttl’s side after they won the fifth round FA Cup tie 2-0 at Molineux in midweek.
It was the perfect outcome for Nuno Espirito Santo on his 100th Premier League game in charge, and the club have now leapfrogged Southampton in the table.
It really was a game of two halves, and Wolves fans will have been fearing the worst at half-time.
Danny Ings scored again, and Southampton were comfortable going into the break.
But Nuno clearly read his players the riot act, and the players came out a different animal for the second half.
It took a somewhat harsh penalty to allow Wolves back into the game, with Ruben Neves converting from the spot.
Then up stepped Neto to produce a goal of the highest quality.
The 20-year-old, so often Wolves’ best player in games this season, jinked his way past Jannick Vestergaard in a flash on the right side of the penalty area, before opening his body and placing his left-footed effort beyond Alex McCarthy and into the far corner.
From there Wolves kept a great level of intensity that was so weirdly absent in the first half.
Southampton did have a few efforts in the second half, with Rui Patricio forced into a great double save at one point from James Ward-Prowse and then Che Adams.
Wolves held out for a huge three points, and on social media, Wolves fans couldn’t help but talk about one man in particular.
Not for the first time this season, supporters lauded Neto for his performance and stunning goal:
Neto carries us every game as well

It’s actually so upsetting that I don’t think Neto will stay next season and I reckon neves might go as well, think we need to sort new contracts for them and fast

I’m not saying that Pedro Neto is the best youngster in the league but Pedro Neto is the best youngster in the league

Neto is an amazing footballer. Not many have the confidence and swagger about them to score that goal. #wwfc
