Wolverhampton Wanderers extended their unbeaten run to five games in the Premier League, after drawing 1-1 with Newcastle United.
The spoils were shared at St. James’ Park, with Ruben Neves cancelling out Jamaal Lascelles’ header in the second-half.
In many ways it was a performance fairly typical of Wolves this season.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were slow out of the blocks, and could well have been two or three down before half-time.
Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin caused a number of problems for the visitors.
It was centre-half Lascelles who ended up breaking the deadlock though, finding space in the box to nod in Ryan Fraser’s cross.
It was poor marking by Wolves, who would equalise around 20 minutes later through Ruben Neves, who did brilliantly to head in Pedro Neto’s cross.
Wolves finished the game very strongly but could not find a winner, with Martin Dubravka making a stunning save from point-black range from Fabio Silva in injury time.
On social media afterwards, goalscorer Neves came in for particular credit from Wolves fans.
The 23-year-old had a slow start in the game, but had a great second-half and was excellent after his goal, and supporters made sure to praise the maestro, who really had had a strong 2021 overall so far:
Neves’ influence on team continues to grow, summed up by a remarkable header. Nuno’s main decision is to find a new partner for him next year and use Moutinho more sparingly #wwfc

Only Gundogan since the start of this calendar year has scored more goals than Neves. Very surprising stat. But Neves has began this year brilliantly. #wwfc #FPL

He was fired up more in second half, especially after his goal. If you watch the last few games, Neves is like a possessed man lately, luv it

Neves has really stepped up in recent weeks. Works so hard off the ball but has been getting forwards much more. Who’d have thought he score a goal inside the box without it being a penalty. With his HEAD!

Neves brilliant again. Involved in everything. Semedo dreadful again! Jose not doing much. Jonny reliable. Dendonker definitely not a CB. Moutinho struggling in the centre of the park. #wolves #wwfc
