Wolves fans make intriguing Rui Pedro Silva claim after heartbreaking defeat to Arsenal

Wolves fell to a gutting defeat against Arsenal on Saturday night in the Premier League – and some fans were left discussing Rui Pedro Silva after the game.

Wolves lost 2-1 against the Gunners, and were just moments away from picking up their third point of the season.

Tolu Arokodare equalised for the Old Gold in injury-time, prompting wild celebrations in front of the travelling fans.

Despite defeat, there were plenty of positives to take away from that Wolves performance.

It was a moment of ecstasy that has sadly been so rare this season.

But the joy was short-lived, with Arsenal then going on to score a winner, with Bukayo Saka’s cross being turned in by Yerson Mosquera.

But there were certainly positives for Wolves.

To play as they did against the Premier League leaders showed there’s potential pick up points, and some fans reckon the recent arrival of Rui Pedro Silva has already had an impact.

After the defeat to Manchester United, Wolves announced the return of Rui Pedro Silva to the club.

Silva was a key part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s coaching team at Molineux, and was a well respected figure in the dressing room.

He’s been brought in by Edwards to hopefully raise the standards and offer fresh perspectives.

And some fans believe that the improved performance against Arsenal – after Silva’s arrival – was no coincidence.

@STurnerTipster: “Improved performance from #wwfc coincidence that levels have been raised since Rui Silva rejoined the club?”

@OldWolfie75: “Great showing by

@Wolves organised and determined performance and unlucky not to come away with a point. Could Rui Silva be having an effect already? #wwfc.”

@UFCfan294678: “And is it a coincidence our best game of the season is when Rui Pedro Silva is back 🤣🤣”

@MarkCollis17: “That’s the first time this season Wolves have actually looked coached. Welcome back Rui Pedro Silva #wwfc.”

Put yourself in Rob Edwards’ shoes. How do you lift the Wolves players’ spirits after losing in the manner they did vs Arsenal?

@smithers40fa: “Rui Pedro Silva is going to have a very positive impact on the team. Today was a Nuno-esque performance. If we are solid at the back then we will start to get results.”

@cmonmebabbies: “Suggests Rui Pedro is already having impact. It’s the hope that kills….”

@RonadatylJake: “That’s the Rui Pedro Silva effect. It will take him a few weeks but he will sort this lot out.”

@jay_wwfc07: “Rui Pedro Silva you have rocked my world.”

Rui Pedro Silva is a great addition by Wolves

It certainly is interesting that Wolves put in one of their most organised displays of the season just days after Rui Pedro Silva returned to the club.

No doubt he has been working hard with the players at Compton Park.

Wolves have made a string of questionable recruitment decisions in recent years but this call to bring back Silva – who some fans think could be a future Wolves manager – does feel quite sensible.

Edwards said of Silva’s return earlier this week (via Wolves official): “He’ll add so much value, not just with football knowledge and tactics, but also from a communication point of view. He’ll help us with his language skills and that’ll be a huge plus. He brings loads of good qualities, experience, tactical knowledge and understanding.”

Who knows just how much of that game plan against Arsenal was down to Silva, but given the comments of Edwards, it seems safe to assume that he had at least some input.
