Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have praised Conor Coady’s performance against Tottenham Hotspur today, despite the team’s 2-0 defeat in north London.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side threatened one or two times but didn’t ever really make life too difficult for Tottenham.
The back four was back for Wolves, and the formation actually seemed to be working in the first-half.
Wolves were nice and compact, and Conor Coady was absolutely outstanding and seemed to block and clear everything.
He made a couple of goal-line clearances, before Harry Kane eventually breached the defence on the stroke of half-time.
Coady was actually slightly at fault in that crucial moment, but he was brilliant for the rest of the game.
Despite Wolves losing the game, Coady’s showing prompted Sky commentator Gary Neville to award him the Man of the Match, which tells you everything.
His performance will perhaps prompt some to reconsider their opinions about whether the 28-year-old can play in a back four.
Here’s what some fans said about the skipper after the game:
An unbalanced performance following an unbalanced team selection. Coady superb, MGW showing flashes of what he can do. Vitihna looked a bit lost today. On the 🏖️ #wwfc

Coady was outstanding today, without him the score would’ve been a lot worse. He’s taken a lot of unfair stick this season from the Twitter sconners but I fully expect him to be leading us next season. Been brilliant for us since Nuno came in. #wwfc

A nothingness about that performance from Wolves once again, as has been too often the case since December. Don’t know what some expect though, call for changes and to give others a go and still moan. Anybody who thinks Conor Coady can’t defend, give your head a wobble. #WWFC

Coady and MGW were the only positives from today. Too many passengers out there today but I’d rather see this experimentation until the end of the season #wwfc

Not great that. Some fleeting good bits, Coady was great and Adama was good when we got the ball to him, not much else to speak of though. Poor goals to give away. One week to go then we can put this to bed #wwfc #TOTWOL

We have had worse performances this season. Some good things and some bad things. Rui, Coady and Traore had good games. Feel sorry for Traore, he chooses the right pass and we don’t capitalise on it! #WWFC

Coady was excellent though. There were other defenders on the pitch, hard to believe I know.

Literally the only positive out of that was Coady really proving he can play in a back 4. The lack of attacking support for Traore is so frustrating. Bring on the off-season…
