Wolves fans are saying the same thing about referee Simon Hooper after Liverpool defeat

Wolves have lost to Liverpool in the Premier League and the performance of referee Simon Hooper has been a big talking point.

Wanderers came into the game optimistic of building on the wins over Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers.

But Wolves came up short on Merseyside, losing 2-1 at Anfield.

The Reds took another step in their pursuit of the Premier League title, with goals coming from Luis Diaz and Mo Salah.

But there is frustration from Wolves about today’s game.

Wolves actually gave a good performance against Liverpool and did not simply sit back and defend.

Wolves did actually carry a threat, but just weren’t clinical enough when they needed to be.

But there is anger amongst Wolves fans towards referee Simon Hooper, who made some very poor decisions in the game.

Hooper failed to book Liverpool players who made fouls on the transition on a few occasions in the first-half.

He also might have given Ibrahima Konate a second yellow card for a challenge on Matheus Cunha just before half-time.

In the second-half, Diogo Jota dived to win a penalty, which was initially given as a foul. But after a VAR intervention, Hooper changed his decision – but did not book Jota.

Wolves fans incensed by Simon Hooper’s performance in Liverpool game

On social media, Wolves fans are very unhappy about the performance of Hooper today.

Many feel as though their side were on the receiving end of several poor calls.

Some even feel that it was one of the worst referring performances ever.

Wolves players can be proud of themselves despite defeat to Liverpool

This is a tough result to take, because Wolves went to Anfield and gave it a real go.

Pereira had said Wolves were going to have a go against Liverpool and that’s what we saw.

Had Liverpool not been awarded that penalty, this game could very well have been a different scoreline. Hooper was already unpopular with Wolves fans, after he failed to award a penalty for a foul by Andre Onana on Sasa Kalajdzic at Old Trafford.

But several of the Wolves players can be pleased with themselves today, and Pereira will likely be happy with that level of performance overall.

Not many teams have been, or will go, to Anfield this season and show that kind of level.
