Wolves’ 4-0 loss to Man City in the season opener was a tough watch, and fans have been quick to highlight the poor performance of one player.
Wolves were helpless to prevent City from running riot on Saturday evening. Erling Haaland continued his opening day streak with a brace, while new signing Tijjani Reijnders lit up the pitch on his debut.
Wolves’ defensive performance was concerning today. City were able to carve them open on numerous occasions, with too much space and a lack of awareness ultimately settling the result.
Emmanuel Agbadou was particularly bad, ball-watching for Haaland’s opener, and giving the ball away for City’s second.
But while the Ivorian is getting his fair share of criticism, it’s another piece of the defence that fans seem most concerned about.
Fans not happy with Jose Sa’s performance against Man City
In response to Nathan Judah’s Agbadou comments, many fans were quick to redirect the blame.
One says: “More worried about Sa.”
Another fan echoes the rhetoric, remarking: “Nah, I’m worried about Sa. If he’s a professional goal keeper, then so am I.”
A third disgruntled spectator joins in, adding another name to his hitlist: “Probably doesn’t help he’s got Doherty next to him and Sa behind, both absolutely useless.”
The Sa slander keeps coming, with this fan wanting a new face between the sticks: “It’s not just him, Jose Sa has been awful I can see why fans have wanted him gone for a couple of years. Awful performance from him today.”
Another chimes in: “Sa also hasn’t made a save , every shot gone in . A decent keeper saves at least two”
The result is disappointing, and it has this fan filled with dread about the season ahead: “Sa is shocking should have saved 3 of them goals Doc is not good enough and Agbadou was shocking today we have no grit up front just pass the ball back, I think it will be our time this season we have struggled for the last 3/4 seasons but this is our worst team. Fosun you sell.”
Wolves’ vulnerable defence needs reinforcements in the window
The scoreline is harsh on Wolves as they did have a foothold in the game, but ultimately, poor defensive displays led to this rout.

With Yerson Mosquera still not fully fit, there was no option for Vitor Pereira to shake things up at the back. There is a clear need for at least one more option at the back.
Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior could be the solution. Wolves are interested in the Polish defender, who would offer more flexibility for times like this when things clearly weren’t working.
With a couple of weeks to go to deadline day, Fosun need to take action to add strength to this back-line, or else this might not be the last hammering we have to sit through this season.
