Wolves fans agree that one player was ‘genuinely awful’ vs Man City, Vitor Pereira made a mistake

Wolves travelled to Manchester City in the Premier League, with Vitor Pereira seeing this fixture as an opportunity to take the scalp of a top side.

Pep Guardiola was full of praise for Wolves before kick-off, and that praise was justified in the early stages as the visitors caused problems on the break and arguably should have scored twice.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde spurned a golden chance after being sent through on goal, getting his pass to Marshall Munetsi all wrong, while Rayan Ait-Nouri was unlucky to strike the post.

But as all top teams normally do, Manchester City punished Vitor Pereira’s men as a quality strike from Kevin De Bruyne flew past Jose Sa to give the hosts the lead.

Unfortunately, that proved to be the only goal of the game as Man City beat Wolves 1-0, and the fans were angry with one player’s performance.

Wolves fans weren’t happy with Marshall Munetsi against Man City

Jorgen Strand Larsen suffered a minor injury pre-match, and it meant he wasn’t fit enough to make the match day squad.

Bellegarde replaced the Norwegian, with Pereira deploying him alongside Munetsi, who was poor on the night.

Munetsi has been criticised by Wolves fans for his lack of involvement in possession, seeing him as someone who just presses well and gets through a lot of defensive work.

Supporters raised similar doubts towards the 28-year-old against City and also criticised Pereira for taking Bellegarde off the pitch instead of him.

“Was fully backing munetsi before today but this performance is just genuinely awful,” one fan wrote.

“I’ve seen the light. Munetsi is not very good,” another stated, while a third questioned: “Apart from Munetsi apparently covering a lot of yards… is there actually anything he’s good at?”

“Munetsi is a passenger,” someone else said while another commented: “Munetsi should be coming off sooner he’s absolutely blowing out his a***”.

“Munetsi, my beloved, I defend you over and over again, but you dropped a stinker today,” a seventh replied.

Munetsi’s stats vs Man City

Wolves fans were right to criticise Munetsi against City. The Zimbabwean powerhouse is excellent off the ball, yet as soon as he receives it, he doesn’t look comfortable.

The former Stade Reims midfielder was shocking in possession and it beggars belief how he stayed on fir 90 minutes, with the stats making for miserable reading.

Worryingly, Munetsi only played seven accurate passes in the match, and even though he’s known for his work off the ball, he only won 33% of his ground duels.

It’s a performance that suggests he should be dropped against Brighton next weekend but that decision depends on Pereira.
