Wolves fan vote suggests one player was actually even better than Jean-Ricner Bellegarde vs Aston Villa

Wolves fell to a 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa at the weekend, and Molineux News readers have voted for their standout player, with one man pipping Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.

Wolves came up short at Villa Park, but Rob Edwards talked up several positives after the game.

Wolves created some chances, but lacked the killer finish to get ahead. Unfortunately, Emi Martinez was in inspired form for Villa, and then Boubacar Kamara scored from the edge of the box.

Kamara’s goal was the eighth that Wolves have conceded from outside the area this season – no side in the division has shipped more.

Edwards was frustrated that a foul wasn’t given on Joao Gomes in the build-up, but it was a better showing from Wolves, and fans hope this performance will lead to a first victory at long last against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde was praised by fans after the Villa game, with several also questioning why he was taken off.

But readers of Molineux News actually felt another player was the true standout.

The nature of the defeat on Sunday was frustrating, because Wolves should have taken three points.

But there were positives, and one man who looked back to somewhere near his best was Andre – who was the winner of a poll run by Molineux News following the game.

At the time of writing, the results in terms of the percentage share are as follows:

From a statistical point of view, Andre really did shine for the visitors.

He was heavily involved, having 99 touches – this was the most of any player in the match from either side.

And Andre was extremely tidy on the ball, completing 69/72 (96%) passes, two of which were key.

Not content with just being a pass-master, Andre was also defensively superb. His 11 defensive contributions were only beaten by Toti Gomes (13), and they were more than any Villa player.

Lastly, he also won an impressive 10/15 duels.

Who do you think was Wolves’ best performer in the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa?

A strong shift from Andre in welcome news for Rob Edwards and Wolves

Andre – like many of his teammates – has not been at his best this season.

But this was much more like it, and a reminder of how good he can be, and how he has the ability to control games from the base of midfield.

The Brazilian is not one to really create chances, or break lines with a dribble.

But he is an excellent retainer of the ball, and he really does ooze quality when he’s on song.

It is little wonder his performance impressed Wolves fans on Sunday, and Edwards now needs the maestro to keep it up.

If Wolves are to get out of this mess, then Andre rediscovering his mojo will be absolutely paramount.
