Wolves expert angered by ‘dreadful’ player who has blown his chance of starting vs Southampton

Wolves supporters are in for a nerve-shredding afternoon as they host relegation rivals Southampton at Molineux.

The Wanderers remain bottom of the Premier League table after failing to win any of their first 10 matches, with Southampton moving into 19th following a 1-0 victory over Everton.

Last weekend, Wolves blew their chance of clinching all three points against Crystal Palace, coming from behind before conceding to Marc Guehi in the 77th minute.

It was a frustrating night for the hosts at Molineux as they were made to settle for a draw, with one player blowing his chance of starting at home to the Saints.

Pablo Sarabia blew his chance of starting vs Southampton

Gary O’Neil must win the match against Southampton to save his job, placing unbelievable amounts of pressure on the young manager.

The 41-year-old also has some big decisions to make to give his side the best chance of securing all three points, and one of those is deciding whether to start Pablo Sarabia.

Sarabia made his first start of the season against Crystal Palace but the Spaniard didn’t cover himself in glory, missing two gilt-edged chances, one in the first half and the other in the second.

Wolves fans were angered by the display of Sarabia, as he failed to take his chances, and journalist Liam Keen believes he should now be dropped for the visit of Southampton.

Dubbing the 32-year-old’s display as ‘dreadful’, Keen told the E&S Podcast: “They pay their money and pay a hell of a lot of money to make their opinions known when they feel is the right time.

“They were right, it’s not nice, and I don’t wish this upon any player, but they were right to cheer, ironically, Pablo Sarabia coming off because he was absolutely dreadful. And it has to be his chance gone now.

“He’s back at the back of the queue on the bench again because he just didn’t take it whatsoever. And not just didn’t take it, I mean, he was woefully bad, really bad. So you expect better from an experienced player like that.”

Should Sarabia start vs Southampton?

Sarabia was frustrating to watch against the Eagles, as he got himself into dangerous positions multiple times but flattered to deceive when calmness and a quality end product were required.

To come to the defence of the Spanish playmaker, it was his first league start of the campaign after impressing against Brighton, and perhaps he will have been disappointed not to showcase his talent.

From O’Neil’s point of view, he will have seen him fashion the opportunities on the pitch, and although he didn’t take them, he will feel he deserves a shot at redemption.

However, with Carlos Forbs and Goncalo Guedes waiting in the wings as well as Hwang Hee-chan returning from injury, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him get dropped.
