Wolves are taking on Newcastle United shortly at St. James’ Park – and the news is now in.
Julen Lopetegui is looking for his side to build on last weekend’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Wanderers may have won last time out, but there is still only four points to the relegation zone.
Newcastle are today’s opponents, and it’s a good opportunity to get points.
The Magpies are in poor form at the moment, and have lost ground in the race to finish in the top four.
Wolves can add to their troubles today – and a victory would move the club up above Crystal Palace in 12th place, after they lost to Manchester City yesterday.
And the team news is officially in.
Confirmed Wolves XI to face Newcastle – Daniel Podence starts after Spurs absence, Matheus Nunes benched
Lopetegui has made a few changes to the team that started against Spurs last Saturday.
The defence is unchanged, with Jose Sa protected by Nelson Semedo, Craig Dawson, Max Kilman and Jonny Castro Otto.
Ruben Neves starts despite being just one booking away from a two-game ban. He’s in midfield with Mario Lemina and Joao Moutinho, with Matheus Nunes dropping out.
And then in attack there is, unsurprisingly, a start for Raul Jimenez after his fantastic performance against Spurs.
Perhaps the most eye-catching part of the teamsheet is Daniel Podence returning to start. He missed out entirely last weekend, with Lopetegui saying the decision was ‘tactical’.
There is also a start for Adama Traore.
Hwang Hee-chan is back on the bench after recovering from a hamstring injury.
Wolves were superb in that second-half against Spurs.
If they can keep things tight and frustrate the home crowd today, then perhaps Lopetegui can work his magic and mastermind another big win this evening.
