What Rob Edwards had to say after Joao Gomes and Hwang Hee-chan went off injured for Wolves

Wolves beat West Ham United 3-0 on Saturday – but the victory may not have come without cost.

The Old Gold have finally got the monkey off their back, tasting victory for the first time this season in the Premier League.

Wolves were inspired to victory by Mateus Mane, who had a hand in all three goals.

Jhon Arias opened the scoring early on, with Hwang Hee-chan then scoring from the penalty spot. Mane added a third for Wolves on 41 minutes.

West Ham were really poor, but Wolves certainly gave a quality performance, and showed the kind of ruthlessness Rob Edwards has been demanding.

Unfortunately though, there were a couple of concerns for Wolves off the back of the win, with Joao Gomes and Hwang going off injured.

At the moment Wolves have a number of injury concerns.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Marshall Munetsi remain out, although Rodrigo Gomes will soon return to action.

So losing anyone else would be far from ideal.

Worryingly against West Ham, Wolves saw two players leave the action due to injuries.

Gomes was withdrawn at half-time and replaced by Andre, and Hwang, who had been playing really well in the game, had to go off just before the hour mark.

Has that Hwang Hee-chan performance changed your perception about the South Korean?

Speaking after the game, Rob Edwards said of the pair (via E&S): “Joao was feeling his groin, so we’ll have to see how he is. Hopefully, he’s not too bad.

“Channy was feeling his calf at half-time.

“He wanted to keep going and then he just felt it tighten up a little bit. Then we brought him off as well, so fingers crossed.

“Obviously, we’ve only got a few days now. So we’ll see how they are.”

Wolves need Gomes and Hwang fit

Hopefully Wolves won’t be losing Gomes or Hwang for extended periods.

Gomes has really rediscovered his mojo in recent matches and has just served up a reminder of how important he is to this side.

Hwang’s two goal contributions against West Ham will do him the world of good, and we know that the South Korean has the potential to have purple patches.

So ideally, Edwards will be able to call on the duo for the mid-week trip to Everton. Hopefully, the contest will not come too soon.
