‘We are bang in trouble’… Some Wolves fans are seeing the light with £13.5m man after Girona defeat

Wolves are still winless in pre-season, after losing their latest match with Girona.

Wanderers fell short against the Spanish outfit in their fifth pre-season contest of the summer, and some fans have expressed concern.

Of course, pre-season is not so much about results.

But it would be nice to taste victory going into the new season, as it could provide a small psychological boost.

It was another game that showed there is still plenty of work to do for Wolves, both on the training pitch and in the transfer window.

Perhaps the biggest positive of the night was Jhon Arias scoring within minutes of coming on for Wolves and enjoying an impressive cameo.

Big things are expected of the new number 10 – and his efforts last night will only excite fans further.

But there’s one player that fans do have some concerns about after last night’s game.

Wolves fans feel Ki-Jana Hoever may not be ready

Over the last few weeks, Ki-Jana Hoever has become a more prominent figure at Wolves.

He’s back now after a loan move to Auxerre last season – and the Dutchman has an opportunity to impress Vitor Pereira.

With Nelson Semedo finally announcing his exit from Wolves, Hoever might be in line to start Wolves’ first game against Manchester City, as a replacement has not yet been signed.

Hoever says he is ‘ready’ to play for Wolves – but some fans are not so sure on the basis of last night.

@jordruss7: “If Ki-Jana Hoever is the answer, we are bang in trouble.”

@WWFC_ST21: “If anyone felt comfortable going into the season with Hoever as our right back surely this game has changed your mind.”

@beds72: “Hoever’s final ball is diabolical.”

@masonwwfc: “Hoever wasn’t good enough for the Prem before I can’t believe he’s our first choice RWB now 🤯 #wwfc.”

@Laura03295618: “Hoever is not the answer he never has been 🐺”

Wolves need right wing-back signing

Hoever – who cost £13.5 million (BBC Sport) – had some promising outings earlier in pre-season, but he would still represent a bit of a risk from Wolves if he is made the regular at right wing-back.

Hoever did supply a good assist for Jorgen Strand Larsen against Burnley, but his final ball is not really consistent.

He’s a good athlete and gets into good attacking areas.

But Pereira needs someone who can deliver the goods consistently for Strand Larsen waiting in the box.

Juanlu Sanchez is on Wolves’ radar, so we’ll see if the club step up their pursuit of him in the coming days.
