Vitor Pereira would have loved what Matheus Cunha did immediately after scoring for Wolves against Aston Villa

Matheus Cunha has been the subject of much discussion. The Wolves forward has looked like he could leave the club in this transfer window but that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore.

Wolves welcomed rivals Aston Villa to Molineux on Saturday evening for a blockbuster Midlands derby in the Premier League.

The Old Gold came into the match inside the relegation zone but knew a win would take them out of it after Leicester City and Ipswich Town both lost earlier in the day.

Matheus Cunha sealed Wolves win against Aston Villa

Despite being the game’s huge underdogs, Vitor Pereira’s men were excellent from first to last whistle.

Jean Ricner Bellegarde was one of three Wolves changes. The Frenchman came in for the suspended Joao Gomes and scored the opener after just 12 minutes.

Although there were nervy moments, including Villa being denied an equaliser by VAR, Wolves saw off their rivals’ threat with Cunha putting the tie to bed deep into extra time.

The Brazilian’s latest strike is his 11th of the season, and arguably his most important.

Cunha celebration ends transfer speculation

Cunha’s future at Wolves has been strongly speculated.

Despite the transfer window being open until Monday, Cunha, who is wanted by at least Premier League clubs, has shut down rumours of a move with his latest goal celebration.

After beating Emi Martinez in the 97th minute, Wolves’ number 10 ran straight to the home fans, took his shirt off and gestured a heart sign to the Molineux pitch. He also kissed the club’s badge after putting his jersey back on.

Although there is still the possibility Cunha will leave at the end of the season, with Premier League survival at stake, the forward’s latest antics will be music to fans’ ears.
