Vitor Pereira explains why Matheus Cunha was subbed off at half-time vs Tottenham

Wolves took another big step towards Premier League survival after a 2-2 draw vs Tottenham.

Hwang Hee-Chan and Jorgen Strand Larsen both got on the scoresheet as Vitor Pereira maintained his unbeaten run as Wolves manager.

The point has helped pull the Old Gold two points away from the Premier League relegation zone, a sensational feat given their situation after Gary O’Neil’s sacking

Larsen received plenty of praise for his performance off the bench while Rayan Ait-Nouri put in one of his best performances for Wolves this season.

However, one moment that surprised a lot of fans was Cunha’s substitution at half-time which Pereira has now explained.

Against Spurs, Cunha was easily one of the best players on the pitch. The attacker was dictating the play and at the heart of everything Wolves were doing.

Even in defence, the Brazilian was coming back and helping out as the visitors looked to stamp their mark on the game.

However, Cunha was subbed off at half-time which puzzled many of the travelling fans.

Now, it has been confirmed that the attacker had felt something in the first half and the manager decided not to risk him.

Pereira said: “Cunha spoke with me at HT. He said ‘coach I felt something in the first half and I’m not comfortable to make a sprint’.

“Better to stay out the game second half.

“Hope not hamstring. Toti was a hamstring.”

Sooner rather than later, Wolves will find out if Cunha will be suspended after the brawl vs Ipswich

Despite the impressive results under Pereira, questions have been asked on whether the Old Gold could still pick up these results without their star man.

However, in the second half against Spurs, the club proved that even without Cunha, they are still a force to be reckoned with.

While it is currently unclear whether Cunha will play vs Nottingham Forest due to his ban or this potential injury. Yet, the players should take confidence from their performance vs Spurs and use that to get a result.
