Vitor Pereira admits one thing did surprise him in Wolves’ victory over Man United

Wolves ran out 2-0 winners over Man United on Boxing Day as Vitor Pereira claimed his second victory in as many games.

After a nervy first half, the game opened up after Bruno Fernandes was sent off just two minutes into the second period.

From there, Wolves began to dominate and Matheus Cunha gave the hosts the lead just before the hour mark straight from a corner.

Then, after a period of defending, the hosts confirmed the win after a fantastic breakaway saw Cunha slide the ball to Hwang Hee-Chan for Wolves’ second in added time.

It was a highly professional performance from Pereira’s side as they moved out of the Premier League relegation zone.

However, the Wolves manager admitted that one thing did surprise him about the match.

While the game will live long in the memories of many Wolves fans, it will also be one to remember for Pereira.

The Wolves manager had only been appointed a week ago with the club languishing in the relegation zone.

Yet, in seven days, he has overseen two victories, five goals and back-to-back clean sheets.

Boxing Day’s win was his first appearance at Molineux since he was appointed and he admitted after the match that he was surprised to hear fans sing his name.

He said: “I am surprised, the fans sing my name from the first day.

“Very special to me and my staff.

“But we must do what we can every game to make them proud, the Wolves fans are the most important of all.”

While Gary O’Neil’s downfall was not purely on the Englishman, his final press conferences were less than impressive.

O’Neil refused to take the blame for the defeats as the club slipped further and further down the table.

The narrative that Wolves couldn’t challenge the big sides also became a common theme, with the players looking like they had forgotten how to win.

Yet, this has all changed since Pereira took control, with the side looking like a menacing force once more.

With Wolves facing another crisis club in Spurs on Sunday, they must continue this momentum they have established and look to pick up at least another point.
