Vitor Pereira admits £24m Wolves player actually surprised him in Everton win

Wolves got back to winning ways last night, with one player taking Vitor Pereira by surprise.

Wanderers are into the next round of the Carabao Cup, beating Everton 2-0 at Molineux.

Marshall Munetsi and Tolu Arokodare got the goals for Wolves, who controlled the game in the first-half before digging in in the second.

Vitor Pereira went with a back four which surprised some, but Wolves look good in the system for the most part.

Ladislav Krejci impressed immensely in defence, but his centre-back partner Santiago Bueno was also really solid.

It was a positive night for Wolves after weeks of misery, and the hope now is that the confidence gained can carry Wanderers to some Premier League points.

It was good to see some of the new signings making an impression – and Tolu Arokodare’s goal was certainly a highlight.

Arokodare joined Wolves on deadline day from Genk in a £24 million deal.

The Nigerian striker was brought in as cover and competition for Jorgen Strand Larsen, and there’s also the potential for the pair to play together.

Arokodare has yet to fully get up to speed.

But against Everton, we got a glimpse of what he can offer, as he raced through on goal and finished in deadly fashion.

His chipped finish over Mark Travers brought fans to their feet at Molineux, and after the game Pereira admitted that style of finish took him by surprise.

He said as paraphrased by Nathan Judah: “Physically he is not in the best condition, the best shape, but he is working hard and will be important for us.

“I was expecting him to go with power (for the goal) but that finish shows his confidence and ability.”

Arokodare off the mark is a big boost for Wolves

Pereira was probably not alone in being surprised that Arokodare finished the way he did against Everton.

It looked as though the drilled finish into the corner was what he would go for.

But perhaps £24 million signing (BBC Sport) Arokodare felt Travers would have expected that, and so he went with a deft lob.

It was a fantastic, ice-cold finish from the big man, and as Pereira said, the mark of someone with a lot of confidence.

Hopefully, we’ll be seeing him ripple the net a lot more often from here on in.
