‘Very tough’: Erik ten Hag shares what he noticed about Wolves’ pre-season before tonight’s game

Wolves take on Manchester United tonight at Old Trafford – and Erik ten Hag believes Wanderers had just as good a pre-season as his side.

After a lot of madness in the last couple of weeks or so, Wolves can now finally get their campaign underway.

It will be Gary O’Neil who sits in the dugout, after he replaced Julen Lopetegui last week.

Lopetegui reached an agreement to quit the club last Tuesday, having grown tired of the financial situation at the club.

Lopetegui had been frustrated all summer, and finally departed just six days before Wolves’ first game.

He wanted to go after the Celtic game, but agreed to stay and manage against Luton Town and Rennes while Wolves found a successor.

O’Neil is in, and it’s a real baptism of fire for the 40-year-old.

He has had just days to prepare, for a game against side that will be pushing for a top four finish and possibly higher this season.

Despite the chaos at Wolves recently, ten Hag is wary.

They are hoping their side can close the gap between them and Manchester City and Arsenal.

They’ve landed a few players in Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund, although the striker is currently injured and won’t feature tonight.

It’s going to be tough, but ten Hag is still wary about Wolves.

He said (via manutd.com): “As [are] all the opponents in the Premier League, [they are] very tough. They also had a very good pre-season as we had.

“So, we have to be [on the] front foot, we have to be ready, and we have to go 100% in our levels to beat them.”

The last time Wolves went to Old Trafford on a Monday night, Joao Moutinho grabbed a winner for the visitors to send the club eighth in the Premier League table.

A point at Old Trafford would be amazing for Wolves

So Wolves finally kick off their Premier League campaign tonight after a crazy past week.

It will be fascinating to see how this game pans out.

But the managerial change could very well unsettle the side heading into this fixture.

With that in mind, Wolves getting a point tonight would honestly be an absolutely fantastic result.

The expectations are that United will win this game comfortably.

Who knows, perhaps this may take some of the pressure off the Wolves players and they will rise to the occasion.
