Unseen moment against Chelsea details Wolves star’s fury against teammate for ‘unjustifiable’ reason

After losing 14 Premier League matches already this season, no matter what way you look at it, Wolves are very much embroiled in a relegation battle.

Despite winning his initial two matches following Gary O’Neil’s departure, Vitor Pereira has been sent a harsh reality check following three consecutive league defeats against Forest, Newcastle and Chelsea. His Wolves side conceded three goals in all of those matches.

The Old Gold are now preparing to take on Arsenal, rivals Aston Villa and leaders Liverpool in a gruelling run of fixtures.

And it isn’t just upcoming matches Pereira has to worry about.

The attitude and behaviour of one of his side’s best players is a major cause of concern.

Matheus Cunha gave furious reaction to Wolves teammate during Chelsea defeat

The future of Matheus Cunha has been speculated for a long time.

The Brazilian is admired by many top clubs but hope was offered to Wolves after it seemed he would pen a new contract — that deal has yet to be finalised though.

And after Cunha appeared to head straight down the tunnel after Wolves lost 3-1 against Chelsea on Monday night, speculation surrounding the forward’s future has once again ramped up.

It wasn’t just the full-time whistle that prompted a worrying reaction from Cunha though.

According to The Athletic, the 23-year-old was furious with teammate Jorgen Strand Larsen in the second half against Chelsea for his decision to take a shot instead of passing the ball.

Larsen’s strike failed to lead to a goal, but testing Robert Sanchez was the correct decision to make which makes Cunha’s reaction even more baffling.

Wolves’ number 10 is said to have ‘reacted with a petulant bout foot-stamping and flailing of arms’ after Strand Larsen opted against playing the ball towards the edge of Chelsea’s box — a move which was much harder to pull off than taking a shot on goal.

Days are numbered

Cunha could leave Wolves in the January window after it has become increasingly evident he is unhappy in the Midlands.

Therefore, working out how to get the best out of an obviously miserable player will define Pereira’s time at Molineux because beating the drop will become unimaginably harder without a fully firing Cunha.

As for the player’s future — the Brazilian may well get his wish and end up at a traditional top-six side before the start of next season.

However, for now, he must get his head down and play his heart out for the club that gave him the platform to perform when others didn’t.
