Wolves suffered a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in their opening game of the Premier League season.
After a poor first half which saw Gary O’Neil’s side go 1-0 down, the club bounced back in the second period.
The visitors pressed hard for an equaliser but were eventually undone by a Bukayo Saka goal to condemn the side to a 2-0 defeat.
There were plenty of positives to take from the performance against the title hopefuls as Wolves look to improve on their mid-table Premier League finish from last season.
In this article, Molineux News has analysed three things we have learnt from the match.
Wolves are in desperate need of a new centre-back

Against Arsenal, Wolves’ backline continued to look fragile. Toti Gomes in particular seemed highly uncomfortable in a back four and gave the ball away numerous times in the system.
While it is only the first competitive game in the new system, it is hard to imagine Gomes will adapt quickly given the performance.
Therefore, a new centre-back who is comfortable in a back four is vital before the end of the transfer window. Wolves have had plenty of money come into the club thanks to the sales of Pedro Neto and Kilman and now is the time to put it to use.
Luckily, Yerson Mosquera looked comfortable throughout the match. If Wolves can get a solid partner next to him, the club’s defence will become highly formidable once more.
Rodrigo Gomes looks to be a fantastic signing

With the loss of Neto, Rodrigo Gomes had big shoes to fill. After performing well in pre-season, the jury was out to see if he could continue his form into the Premier League and he delivered.
After a solid first-half performance, Gomes came out all guns blazing in the second period and was easily one of the best players for the club on the pitch.
It was a highly impressive first appearance in the Premier League, especially when you consider the level of opposition Wolves were against.
As the games progressed, you can only imagine Gomes improving further as he continues to integrate with his teammates and the system.
Is Daniel Podence set to have a Wolves future?

Throughout the summer, it looked all but certain that Daniel Podence would depart. After his successful loan spell at Olympiacos, the Greek side has made it clear that they want the winger back.
Liam Keen also believed that Podence would depart, with his contract set to expire next year.
However, on matchday one, the winger was part of the squad and made an appearance off the bench for Wolves.
It is perhaps the biggest sign so far that O’Neil wants Podence to stick around for the campaign and he is prepared to make him a part of the squad once more.
